Kennedy girls bowlers clip Wash

Kennedy built a 30-pin lead in the first round and held on to beat Washington, 2623-2589, Friday in girls bowling at Lancer Lanes.

Amanda Wiedemeier led Kennedy with a high game of 211 and 410 series. Zariel Oldfield had a 365 series for the Cougars.

Keely Pernicka shot games of 210 and 212 for a 422 series for Washington. She had high game and series in the meet.

Courtney Snodgrass also shot a 210 game for Washington. She finished with a 365 series.

Wiedemeier sparks Kennedy bowlers

WATERLOO - Amanda Wiedemeier began the 2012-13 bowling campaign with a strong performance for Kennedy Tuesday.

Wiedemeier rolled games of 201 and 236 for a two-game series of 437 as the Cougars defeated Cedar Falls, 2452-2323, at Maple Lanes.

Jessi Schoettmer had a 207 game for Kennedy.

Cougars, Wiedemeier 6th at state bowling

DES MOINES -- Cedar Rapids Jefferson rallied from a sixth-place standing after the first round to claim second Friday at the Class 2A girls state bowling tournament at Plaza Lanes.

Ottumwa placed three bowlers in the top 10 and ran away with the title with 3101 points. Jefferson was second with 2784, followed by Muscatine (2756), Waterloo West (2745) and Waukee (2734). Kennedy finished sixth with 2641.

Jefferson was in sixth place after the first round, but was only 20 pins behind second-place Waukee. The J-Hawks rolled a 943 Baker round to claim second.

Kennedy was fifth after the first round, four pins ahead of the J-Hawks. The Cougars rolled a 796 Baker round.

Kennedy's Amanda Wiedemeier placed sixth in the individual standings with a 608 three-game series. Jefferson's Courtney Moore was seventh with a 607 and Prairie's Kate Palmer was 10th with a 553.

Brittany Smith of Des Moines Lincoln rolled games of 268 and 279 in the qualifying rounds before cooling off to 159 in the third game. She still won the individual title by 33 pins.

Kennedy girls bowlers qualify for state

WATERLOO - The Cedar Rapids Washington boys finished second in the Class 2A regional bowling tournament Thursday at Maple Lanes and advanced to next week's state meet.

Waterloo East buzzed through the field, scoring a 3405. Washington (3198) was second, Waterloo West (3050) third, C.R. Kennedy (2744) fourth and Cedar Falls (2664) fifth.

No individual scores were available.

The Kennedy girls also finished second and qualified for the state meet.

Waterloo West (2774) won the regional title. Kennedy (2695) was followed by Washington (2486), Waterloo East (2458) and Cedar Falls (2257).

Jefferson girls rally past Kennedy bowlers

Jefferson rallied from a 21-pin deficit in the Baker round to beat Kennedy, 2510-2451, Tuesday in girls bowling at Cedar Rapids Bowl.

Courtney Moore led the J-Hawks with a high game of 268 and 443 series.

Amanda Wiedemeier had the hot hand for Kennedy, rolling games of 222 and 245 for a 467 series.

Jefferson took command of the match by picking up 100 pins over the third and fourth games of the Baker round.
