Cougars move into 1st place tie with win

DUBUQUE -- Amanda Weidemeier rolled a 410 series to help Kennedy past Dubuque Senior, 2740-2697, Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls bowling meet.

Kennedy's win pushed the Cougars into a first-place tie with Senior in the Mississippi Division. Paige Ermer rolled high game of 222 and Ashley Hoppe had a 205 for the Cougars (13-2, 6-1 MVC).

Senior is 6-1, 6-1.

Cougars 1st at Prairie meet

Kennedy battled back through the losers' bracket, winning seven straight matches, and won the Prairie Invitational Baker bowling tournament Saturday at Lancer Lanes.

The Cougars were beaten by Jefferson in the first round, then fought back through and beat the J-Hawks in the losers' bracket final. Kennedy then beat Washington twice to win the championship.

Washington was second, followed by Jefferson and Marion. All seven Metro teams competed.

The tournament used a Baker format. All five bowlers from each team shot alternate frames. The bowler who rolled the first frame also rolled the sixth, second rolled the seventh, etc. The format also included best-of-3 matches in a ladder format.

Cougars escape Linn-Mar in OT

Kennedy had to work overtime to finally beat Linn-Mar Friday afternoon in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls bowling meet at Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

The score was tied, 2625-2625, at the end of regulation, so an extra Baker round game was rolled. Each of the five bowlers on each team rolled a pair of frames in alternate fashion.  The meet was still up for grabs after Kennedy's Paige Ermer left a 7-10 split in her final frame. Linn-Mar's Stacey Schwarzenstein needed two strikes, plus pins on a third ball, to give the Lions the victory. She knocked down all but the 10 pin and Kennedy escaped with a 15-pin victory.

Cougars hand City High 1st loss

IOWA CITY -- Ashley Hoppe rolled a high game of 203 and tied for high series with teammate Allie McQuiston at 358 to lead Kennedy past Iowa City High, 2580-2457, Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at Colonial Lanes.

Alecia McEachran rolled a 351 series for Kennedy (4-1, 4-1 MVC). The loss was the first for City High (4-1, 4-1).
