McEachran leads Cougars

Alecia McEachran rolled a 198 high game en route to a 362 series that propelled Kennedy past Iowa City West, 2598-2056, Dec. 17 at Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Kennedy is 3-1 overall and in the Mississippi Valley Conference. West dropped to 1-3, 1-3.

Weidemeier’s 200 games carry Cougars

 Amanda Weidemeier rolled a pair of 200 games and a 422 series to lead Kennedy past Prairie, 2456-2236, Friday (Dec. 10) in an MVC girls’ bowling match at Lancer Lanes.

Katlynn Palmer had high game (195) and series (354) for Prairie.

Prairie will host the Prairie Baker Invitational on Saturday at Lancer Lanes. Kennedy will compete.

Keely Pernicka rolled a high game 254 en route to a 435 series and led Washington past Kennedy, 2470-2336, Friday (Dec. 3) at Lancer Lanes.

Bowling is fastest-growing sport in Iowa

Too bad high school letter jackets are no longer in vogue.

Maybe then the newest group of prep letter winners would get more recognition.

Right now, high school bowling is mostly a sport followed by the bowlers themselves, their family members and few fans.

But that doesn’t mean it’s not popular.

“It is,” says Linn-Mar head boys coach Andy Diercks, “the fastest-growing high school and collegiate sport in the country.

“It’s had double-digit growth in terms of numbers in the past five or six years. And it just keeps growing.”
