Cougars boot Jeff with late goals

Reid Botkin and Mark Schulz scored in the final five minutes Tuesday night to give No. 6 Kennedy a 2-0 victory over Jefferson in a Mississippi Valley Conference soccer match at Kingston Stadium.

The Cougars dominated play, but could not find the net until near the end of the game.

Kennedy raised its records to 9-4 overall and 6-4 in the MVC.

No. 6 Cougars denied by No. 1 Trojans

There was another classic boys soccer battle at Kennedy High School Friday night between two of the top teams in the state between No.1 Iowa City West and the sixth-ranked Cougars.

Iowa City West scored on a free kick from 20 yards with two minutes left in the first overtime for a 1-0 victory.

Kennedy is now 8-4 overall and 5-4 in the rugged Mississippi Valley Conference.

6 Metro teams ranked in boys soccer

Six boys soccer teams from the Metro area are ranked again this week by the IAHSSCA, but the exact spots have changed a little bit.

Four Metro teams are ranked in Class 3A with Linn-Mar No. 4, Washington No. 5, Kennedy No. 6 and Prairie No. 13.

Two Metro teams are ranked in Class 2A with Xavier No.4 and Marion No.13.

No.4 Kennedy nips No.11 Prairie

Andrew Sheeley scored on a penalty kick with 10 minutes left in the game Tuesday night as No.4 Kennedy blanked No.11 Prairie, 1-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference battle at Kennedy.

Sheeley got his free kick after Mark Schulz had been fouled.

Kennedy raised its records to 7-3 overall and 4-3 in the MVC.

No.4 Cougars dump Waterloo West

Reid Botkin and Ryan Walker scored two goals apiece Friday as fourth-ranked Kennedy blanked Waterloo West, 5-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference soccer match at the Tuma Complex.

Andrew Sheely also scored for Kennedy and collected three assists.

Walker had two assists. Mark Schulz, Jacob Sarasin, Killian Magee and J.J. Reinhardt also had assists for Kennedy.

The Cougars raised their records to 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the MVC.
