Kennedy's depth bests City High tankers

IOWA CITY - Kennedy won only two events, but the Cougars' superior depth sent them past Iowa City High, 93-77, Tuesday in boys swimming at the Mercer Aquatics Center.

Kennedy's Brennan Urbi won twice, taking the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

City High finished first in the nine remaining events.

Kennedy won the meet with nine second-place and 11 third-place finishes.

Heisler earns honor at MVC swim

Josh Hughes has been one of the top long-distance swimmers in Iowa during his prep career at Cedar Rapids Washington.

In fact, he probably could have swum all the way from here to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore by now if you added all his miles together in the pool.

Hughes will swim at Johns Hopkins next year and probably major in biology as he works toward a spot in the medical field. For now, he's set his sights on trying to win a state title in the 500-yard freestyle next month in Marshalltown.

Heisler leads Cougars at Burlington

BURLINGTON - Chandler Heisler finished second in the 50 freestyle and sixth in the 100 free to guide Kennedy to a sixth-place finish Saturday at the Grayhound Invitational boys swimming meet.

Heisler also swam on the third-place 200 free relay. Other members were Stefan Kitsos, John Richardson and Harrison Moore.

Kitsos and Richardson were joined by Dylan Casey and Andy Hanson on the fourth-place 200 medley relay team.

Muscatine won the meet with 331.5 points. Iowa City West was second with 233.

Heisler shines in loss to Warriors

Washington's Ryo Ueno was a triple-winner and the Warriors won 7 of 11 events to beat Kennedy, 98-72, Tuesday night in a boys swimming meet at the Cougars' pool.

Ueno won the 200-yard individual medley and 500 freestyle. He also swam on the 200 medley relay.

Nick Saulnier won the 200 free, Josh Hughes the 100 breaststroke and Matt Jackson the 100 butterfly for Washington. The Warriors also claimed the 400 free relay.

Chandler Heisler was a triple-winner for Kennedy. He won the 50 free in 22.23 seconds and claimed the 100 free in 49.65. He also swam on the winning 200 free relay.

Heisler shines as Cougars dunk Hempstead

DUBUQUE --  Chandler Heisler won four events Thursday night as the Cedar Rapids Kennedy Cougars defeated Hempstead, 103-67, in a Mississippi Valley Conference swimming meet in Dubuque.

Heisler captured the 100 IM and 100 freestyle races for Kennedy. He also swam on the triumphant 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

Stefan Kitsos was a three-time winner for the Cougars in the 100 butterfly, 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.
