Manternach keeps busy for Cougars

Many high school kids would love to excel in the classroom, compete at a high level in sports or perform on stage.

Darby Manternach does all three at Kennedy High School.

Manternach, a sophomore, carries a 4.1 GPA in her classes, she's one of the top swimmers in the Mississippi Valley Conference and she's also a member of show choir at Kennedy.

That's quite a trifecta and keeps her very busy.

"It can be a lot sometimes, especially with my homework and AP (Advanced Placement) classes," she said Saturday. "But, I don't know, I manage."

She manages quite well.

Manternach placed second in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle races Saturday at the Kennedy Invitational. She also helped the Cougars finish second in the 200 freestyle relay and place third in the 400 freestyle relay.
