Jenks, Evans lead Metro parade to Drake

Linn-Mar distance stars Stephanie Jenks and Josh Evans are poised to leave their mark on the Drake Relays again next week.

Jenks, a sophomore, is seeded first in the 1500 meter run, first in the 3000 meter run and second in the 800. She won the 1500 and 3000 at Drake last year as a freshman.

Evans, a senior, is seeded first in the 3200, third in the 1600 and 10th in the 800. He and his teammates are seeded No.1 in the 4x800 relay and the sprint medley, with Evans the anchor on both relays when they ran their best times.

Evans set a meet record at the Drake Relays last year when he captured the 1600 in 4 minutes, 10.86 seconds. He also finished second in the 3200.

Estelle, J-Hawks set records at Mississippi girls meet

IOWA CITY - Kennedy's Marissa Estelle set a record in the 100 meter hurdles Monday night and helped lead the Cougars to a second-place finish in the Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division girls track meet at Iowa City West.

Estelle ran the hurdles in 15.32 seconds, breaking the former mark of 15.41 set a year ago by Cedar Rapids Washington's Brooke Foreman.

Jefferson set the only other record at the meet, shattering the shuttle hurdle relay mark by 1.71 seconds. The old mark was set last year by Dubuque Senior.

Iowa City West won the meet with 159 points. Kennedy was second with 128.5, followed by Iowa City High with 122 and Jefferson with 84.

Kennedy's Allison Culver won the 1500, and the Cougars won the 4x800 relay.

Jefferson won the 4x200 and sprint medley relays.

Iowa City West's McKennan Cronbaugh won three events and was named the meet's outstanding athlete.

Lions, Cougars win races in Iowa City

IOWA CITY - The Linn-Mar boys and the Kennedy girls came home with a pair of victories Thursday night at the Forwald/Coleman Relays in Iowa City.

Linn-Mar won the shuttle hurdle relay with Perrion Scott, Rhys Davis, Tristan Freese and Mike Keiser sharing the baton. The Lions also won the 4x100 relay with Scott, Freese, Brandon Jeffries and Tim Wolfe speeding around the track.

Kathia Wampole won the 800 meter run for Kennedy. The Cougars also took the 4x800 relay with Wampole, Carolyn Stone, Lauren Meyer and Kristen Siebenga forming the quartet.

Cougars click at Lion Relays

After a sluggish start to a track season marred by canceled meets,  the Kennedy girls broke out Tuesday night by winning the Linn-Mar Lion Relays by  a decisive margin over the host team.

The Cougars claimed five individual champs along with two relay winners and also picked up a pair of runner-up relay finishes.  They topped the eight-team field with 150  points.

Linn-Mar came in second with 121 points thanks to three relay  victories. In two of their winning events, the distance medley and the  sprint medley, the Lions set meet records.

Estelle, Murtha shine at Iowa City meet

IOWA CITY - Marissa Estelle of Kennedy and Craig Murtha of Xavier were double-winners at the Iowa City West coed track meet Thursday.

Estelle captured the 100 hurdles and 200 dash for the Cougars. Murtha claimed the shot put and discus for the Saints.

The Linn-Mar girls won five events and finished second in the team standings. Rachel Perry (400), Amber Decker (800) and Stephanie Jenks (1500) won individual titles. The Lions also claimed the 4x800 relay and sprint medley.
