Jefferson pins loss on Kennedy, 43-27

Kennedy dropped a Mississippi Valley Conference home wrestling meet Thursday night to crosstown rival Jefferson, 43-27.

There were nine pins with Jefferson scoring six of them. The J-Hawks got pins from Kyle Briggs, Kelly May, Luke Sedlacek, Josh Allen, Drake Allen and Dalton Kuehl. It was May’s 16th pin in 23 wins.

“I always wrestle for the pin,” said May. “I expect to get a pin every time I go out there.”

St. John wins 145 title for Prairie at Geneseo

GENESEO, Ill. - Skyler St. John won the 145-pound title at the Geneseo Invitational wrestling tournament to help the Prairie Hawks finish third in the team standings.

St. John defeated Corey Abernathy of Waverly-Shell Rock, 8-1, in the championship match of the 20-team tournament.

Waverly-Shell Rock captured the team title in a close battle with Bettendorf and Prairie. Waverly-Shell Rock finished with 193 points. Bettendorf nipped Prairie for second place by a half-point, 182 to 181.5.

Three Prairie wrestlers finished second in their weight class with Josh Wenger (126), Trey Blaha (138) and Andrew Netolicky (285) reaching the finals before falling.

Nolan Hromidko placed second at 106 pounds for the Kennedy Cougars, who finished 15th in the team standings.

Cougar matmen claw Warriors

Kennedy wrestlers had four pins and received four forfeits in a 51-28 win over Washington Thursday night at the Warrior gym.

Mason Jacobs (195), Zack Goodall (220), Nathan Waterhouse (126) and AJ Losch (138) had pins for the Cougars.

Losch also won by decision against Dubuque Wahlert. The Cougars were beaten by the Golden Eagles, 46-18.

Prairie wrestlers roll to Ames title

AMES - Prairie crowned four champions Saturday and won the Jack Mendenhall Invitational wrestling meet.

Prairie topped an 18-team field with 218 points. Dowling Catholic was second with 173.5. Jefferson tied for 10th with 101 points and Kennedy was 15th with 54.

Prairie placed five wrestlers in the championship round and four won. Sam Uthoff (106), Trey Blaha (138), Skyler St. John (152) and Andrew Netolicky (285) won titles.

Cam Rathje (170) finished second, Jamie Day (145) and Jesse Hynek (220) were third and Casey Becker (195) was fourth.

Cougars take 5th at Fort Madison wrestling

FORT MADISON -- Taylor Moss, A.J. Losch and J.D. Ruzicka all placed second in their weight classes for the Cedar Rapids Kennedy Cougars on Saturday at the Fort Madison wrestling tournament.

All three Cougars were defeated by Fort Madison wrestlers in the finals.

Moss was defeated by Chase Seaney, 8-2, in the championship match at 120 pounds. Losch was pinned by Clayton Hocker in the finals at 138 pounds. Ruzicka was pinned by Christian Dunn in the finals at 132 pounds.

Logan Rodriguez (113) and Tyler Hansen (126) placed third for Kennedy. Nick Polum (182) finished fourth.

The Cougars finished in fifth place in the team standings. Fort Madison won the title.
