Williams, Kremer win titles for Kennedy grapplers

BOONE - Shane Williams had a big day for the Kennedy wrestling team Saturday at the Lyn Dighton Invitational in Boone.

Williams won the 160-pound title with three straight pins and collected the 100th victory of his career.

Luke Kremer captured the 132-pound crown for the Cougars by topping eighth-ranked Levi Gilmore of Spencer in the finals.

Taylor Moss (120) and Ryan Rodriguez (138) placed second for Kennedy. Dakoda Aldrich (195) finished third and Nathan Waterhouse (113) was fourth.

Kennedy finished third in the team standings behind Dowling Catholic and Spencer.

Cougars flatten West, dumped by Linn-Mar

WATERLOO - Mitch Wantock returned to the Linn-Mar wrestling lineup with a slam Thursday night at Waterloo West.

Wantock, who broke his ankle in the Linn-Mar football team's regular-season finale on Oct. 21, pinned West's Jordan Laird in 5 minutes, 21 seconds in the Lions' 70-6 rout of the Wahawks. He also won by forfeit in Linn-Mar's 60-12 romp past Kennedy.

Kennedy beat Waterloo West, 49-18.

Linn-Mar had seven pins against West and five against Kennedy. Matt Wempen at 106, Alijah Jeffery at 113, Damon Griffin at 120 and Ross Lembeck at 145 all had a pair of pins. Trevor Berry at 126 won by pin and also received a forfeit win. Joel Northrup at 132 and Ryley Stancel at 195 had falls against West.

Northrup, ranked fifth at 132, upset Kennedy's third-ranked Luke Kremer, 2-0, in their bout.

Kremer bounced back to record a pin against Waterloo West. The Cougars also got pins from Nathan Waterhouse at 113 and Dakoda Aldrich at 195 against the Wahawks.

Kennedy's Ryan Rodriguez and Aldrich recorded a pair of wins.

Prairie grapplers stick Kennedy, 52-17

WATERLOO - Zack Fiser, Chris Walters, Cameron Rathje and Andrew Netolicky collected pins Tuesday night as sixth-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie defeated Kennedy, 52-17, in a Mississippi Valley Conference wrestling meet in Waterloo.

Trey Blaha, Skyler St. John and Trent Schulte also won matches for the Hawks against Kennedy.

Luke Kremer, Ryan Rodriguez, Sean Knox and Shane Williams picked up victories for the Cougars against Prairie. Kremer had a technical fall and Williams picked up a pin.

Prairie drubbed Waterloo East, 69-9, in the other half of its double-dual. Kennedy defeated Waterloo East, 57-24.

Kennedy matmen win title at Fort Madison

FORT MADISON - Luke Kremer, Ben Feuerhelm and Shane Williams won individual titles Saturday to help Cedar Rapids Kennedy capture top honors at the Fort Madison Invitational wrestling tournament.

Kremer pinned Damone Manning of Burlington in 31 seconds to win the 132-pound crown. He went 3-0 in the tournament with a major decision and two pins, raising his record to 13-2.

Feuerhelm trimmed Maverick McCarty of West Hancock, 9-7, for the title at 145 pounds. He went 3-0 in the tournament with two pins, raising his record to 8-7.

Williams posted three straight pins for Kennedy en route to the 160-pound crown, including a pin over Chris Berg of Fort Madison in the finals in 3:45. He raised his mark to 14-2.

J.D. Ruzicka (126) and Ryan Rodriguez (138) placed second for the Cougars.

Kennedy topped Burlington by eight points for the team championship in a tight race.

Cougars pinned twice at Iowa City

IOWA CITY -- Kennedy dropped a pair of wrestling matches Thursday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference double dual meet at Iowa City West.

Kennedy was beaten by Cedar Falls, 38-33. The Cougars had to forfeit at three weights and received only one forfeit from the Tigers. J.D. Ruzicka, Luke Kremer and Shane Williams had pins for Kennedy.

Iowa City West walloped Kennedy, 64-6. Kobi Cowen at 106 pounds and Zack Goodall at 220 posted decision for the Cougars, but were the only Kennedy wrestlers to win.

Iowa City West had five pins, a technical fall and two major decisions.

Iowa City West also beat Cedar Falls, 59-12.
