Balanced Lions dunk Cougars by 20

If you thought the Linn-Mar Lions were a one-man band, take another look and guess again.

The Lions played like a finely tuned orchestra Tuesday night in a 76-56 victory over the Kennedy Cougars in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys basketball game at Linn-Mar.

Linn-Mar star Jordan Bohannon does not have to score 40 points for the Lions to mow down a Metro opponent like he did against Prairie two weeks ago, not when his teammates are hitting all the right notes like they did against Kennedy.

Bohannon had a sub-par shooting night and scored only 17 points -- six points under his average -- but it hardly mattered with a balanced attack that kept Kennedy off-balance much of the night.

Riley Murphy had a hot hand and tossed in 17 points for Linn-Mar, Jared Printy notched 16 points, Jordan Brandt had 12 points and Beau Klostermann nearly made it five guys in double figures with nine points.

Bohannon tops Metro basketball stats

Jordan Bohannon’s blazing start to the high school basketball season has him among the state’s offensive leaders.

Bohannon, the Linn-Mar senior who has committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes, leads Class 4A players in 3-point goals (26) and is third in scoring average (23.3) He also is shooting 90.9 percent from the free-throw line (30 of 33).

Bohannon poured in 40 points with nine 3-point goals against Prairie Dec. 18, both Class 4A highs this season. His 195 career 3-pointers ranks No. 3 in Metro history behind his brother, Jason (230), and Prairie’s Josh Kimm (205).

Washington’s Laveechie Williams is enjoying a fine start to his senior season, leading the Metro area in rebounds per game (10.2) and ranking third in scoring (14.4).

A 9-1 start by the Kennedy girls has been sparked by the play of Lela Sellers and Sydney Hayden.

Bohannon drills nine 3's for 40

Jordan Bohannon was simply Bo-Dacious on Friday night.

The Linn-Mar sharpshooter broke the school record with nine 3-pointers and poured in a career-best 40 points as the Lions drilled Cedar Rapids Prairie, 91-54, in the Linn-Mar gym.

The record stayed in the Bohannon family, however, as Jordan snapped the old mark of eight 3-pointers set by his older brother, Jason, during the 2005-06 campaign.

Bohannon tossed in one of his 3-pointers from more than 30 feet, hit several other triples with a defender's hand in his face and twice beat the clock with 3-pointers at the end of a quarter.

He finished 9 for 11 from behind the arc in his remarkable performance.

"It's a shooter's dream," Bohannon said. "You work so hard in the off-season, preparing for these moments."
