Lions get boost from Jared Printy

The Bohannon and Printy families have accomplished great things in the Linn-Mar basketball program over the years with state titles, scoring records and plenty of excitement.

Now there's a member of each family on the Linn-Mar boys basketball team as the Lions prepare for another campaign.

Jordan Bohannon has started for the Lions ever since he was a freshman and enters his final season with 998 career points and a scholarship to Iowa tucked away in his back pocket. Jared Printy played at Cedar Rapids Washington the past few years and transferred to Linn-Mar for his final season of high school basketball before heading off to Western Michigan.

Jared Printy commits to Western Michigan

Linn-Mar senior Jared Printy plans to continue his basketball career at Western Michigan University, The Gazette reported on its website Thursday night.

Printy, a 6-foot-5 guard, was offered a scholarship by Western Michigan on Monday and accepted on Thursday.

Printy transferred from Cedar Rapids Washington to Linn-Mar last spring. He averaged 12.2 points and made 51 3-pointers for the Warriors last season.

Uhlir will play hoops at Augustana

Linn-Mar senior Nic Uhlir has accepted an offer to play basketball at Augustana College, an NCAA Division III powerhouse in Rock Island, Ill.

Augustana finished second in the national tournament this year, falling to Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the championship game.

"I'm really looking forward to joining that team," Uhlir said Monday night.

Uhlir averaged 13.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists for Linn-Mar this season in the backcourt. He made 36 3-pointers and shot 72.7 percent at the foul line.

Uhlir was named first team All-Metro and second team all-Mississippi Valley Conference. The Lions finished with an 18-5 record and reached the Class 4A substate finals.

INA tabs McDermott, Bohannon, Manning

Adam McDermott, Jordan Bohannon and Brendon Manning have been named to the all-state basketball teams by the Iowa Newspaper Association (INA).

McDermott, a 6-foot-3 senior from Xavier, made first team all-state in Class 3A. He averaged 18.0 points and 6.3 rebounds, helping the Saints to an 18-9 record and third place at the state tournament.

Bohannon, a 6-foot junior, made second team all-state in Class 4A. He averaged 17.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists, helping the Lions finish 18-5 and make the substate finals.

Manning, a 6-4 senior, was named third team all-state in Class 4A. He averaged 14.6 points and 7.5 records, helping the Cougars finish 18-6 and reach the quarterfinals of the state tournament.

Daniel Tillo of Sioux City North was named Mr. Basketball.

Printy transfers from Wash to Linn-Mar

Cedar Rapids Washington junior Jared Printy has decided to change schools and will begin classes at Linn-Mar High School next Monday, his father told the Metro Sports Report Monday night.

Printy, 6-foot-5, was the leading scorer for the Washington basketball team this season at 12.2 points per game. He also averaged 4.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists and made 51 3-pointers.

"It was a family decision, something we thought was best for Jared moving forward. A difficult decision," said Boyd Printy, Jared's father.

Washington Coach Adam Sanchez and Linn-Mar Coach Chris Robertson could not be reached for comment Monday night.

Jared Printy's cousins are basketball coaches at Linn-Mar. Jordan Printy is an assistant coach with the Linn-Mar boys basketball team and Jaime Printy Brandt is the head coach of the Linn-Mar girls basketball team.
