Xavier girls golfers 2nd at Linn-Mar quad

Xavier finished second at the Linn-Mar quadrangular girls golf meet Thursday at Hunters Ridge.

Grace Winker shot a 44 for low round for the Saints. Maddie Bertsch and Amy Olberding each shot 45.

Cedar Falls won with a 172 score, 10 strokes better than Xavier. The Tigers' Allison Rolinger and Hanna Hagerty tied for medalist honors with 42s.

Linn-Mar was third. Lauren Coughlin led the Lions with a 43.

Lions 3rd at own meet

Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids opened a state-of-the-art indoor facility this winter to help golfers work on their game when it was too cold or wet to play outside.

MJ Kamin of Washington and Maddie Bertsch of Xavier spent as much time there as they could and are glad they did.

Kamin and Bertsch shot 11-over-par 83's and shared runnerup honors at the Linn-Mar Invitational Wednesday afternoon at Hunters Ridge to establish themselves as two of the top female golfers in the Metro this year.

Rachele Miller of Pleasant Valley won the tournament with an 8-over 80 to help her team claim the team championship.

Winker leads Xavier to quad win

WATERLOO - Grace Winker shot a 3-over-par 39 to lead Xavier to the victory Tuesday at the Waterloo East quadrangular girls golf meet held at Gates Park.

Winker was medalist. Teammate Maddie Bertsch was runnerup with a 42.

Xavier beat Linn-Mar by 13 strokes. Dubuque Wahlert was third and East fourth.

Kamin wins MVC quad meet at Gardner

MJ Kamin of Washington took medalist honors with a 4-over-par 40 Tuesday at a Mississippi Valley Conference girls golf meet at Gardner Golf Course.

Linn-Mar won the team title at the quadrangular meet at 197.
