Lions win Jeff girls golf quad

Jefferson junior Megan Furnish shot a 44 for medalist honors, but it was Linn-Mar's depth that gave the Lions the win at the Jefferson girls golf quadrangular Thursday at Jones Park.

Linn-Mar had three players break 50, keying it to a five-stroke win over Iowa City High. Jefferson was third, Washington fourth.

Danielle Toy's 47 led Linn-Mar. Emma Lorenz and Julie Pople shot 49s.

Teams -- 1. Linn-Mar 196, 2. Iowa City High 201, 3. Jefferson 203, 4. Washington 242

Medalist -- Megan Furnish (CRJ) 44. Runnerup -- Danielle Toy (LM) 47.

LINN-MAR (196): Danielle Toy 47, Emma Lorenz 49, Julie Pople 49, Dionna Jensen 51, Rachel Thrune 51

IOWA CITY HIGH (201): Jordyn Theisen 48, Eliz Wheeler 50, Rachel Stewart 51, Katherine van der Woude 52

Xavier romps in Linn-Mar girls golf quad

Kimmy Askelson fired a 38 and Maddie Bertsch a 40 to lead Xavier to a 28-stroke win at the Linn-Mar girls golf quad  Tuesday at Hunters Ridge.

Prairie's Kerstin Flugum was third with a 44. Emma Lorenz's 47 was low score for Linn-Mar.

Linn-Mar was second in team play, followed by Prairie. Waterloo East had only two golfers.

Teams -- 1. Xavier 179, 2. Linn-Mar 207, 3, Prairie 210, Waterloo East had no team score

XAVIER (179): Kimmy Askelson 38, Maddie Bertsch 40, Grace Winker 47, Taylor Wertzberger 54

LINN-MAR (207): Emma Lorenz 47, Danielle Toy 53, Julie Pople 53, Katie Harding 54

Lions club their way to quad win

Dionna Jensen shot a 43 and Julie Pople a 46 to lead Linn-Mar to first place in a girls golf quadrangular meet Thursday at Gardner golf course.

Linn-Mar finished with a 186. Kennedy was next at 199, followed by Washington at 230 and Marion at 234.

All four Linn-Mar golfers broke 50. 

Kennedy's Ali Lindo was second in medalist play with a 45.

Teams -- 1. Linn-Mar 186, 2. Kennedy 199, 3. Washington 230, 4. Marion 234

Medalist -- Dionna Jensen (LM) 43
