Sommer, Ryan power Linn-Mar

DUBUQUE - Kristie Sommer had a home run in each game and Maddy Ryan also went deep as Linn-Mar swept a doubleheader Friday from Dubuque Wahlert.

Ryan had a homer and four runs batted in as the Lions won the opener 13-7. Sommer had a homer, double and drove in two runs.

Linn-Mar took the nightcap, 8-2. Sommer had a homer, triple and drove home four. Madison Rentschler had two hits as well.

The Lions are 15-3 overall, 11-2 in the Mississippi Valley Conference.

Linn-Mar trumps Waterloo East twice

WATERLOO - The Linn-Mar Lions swept a Mississippi Valley Conference softball doubleheader at Waterloo East Thursday, 10-0 and 17-0 in four innings.

Kristie Sommer collected seven RBIs in the second game with a grand slam and a three-run homer. Morgan Braughton hit a three-run triple and had five RBIs in that game.

Maddy Ryan went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple and got the victory in the opener. Madison Rentschler was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Linn-Mar raised its records to 13-3 overall and 9-2 in the conference.

Lions split with Waterloo West

The Linn-Mar softball team split a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader with Waterloo West Monday at the Linn-Mar field.

The twinbill began May 27 but was suspended by weather.

Linn-Mar won the first game, 12-0, in four innings on a two-hit shutout by Maddy Ryan. Kristie Sommer went 3-for-3. Katie Sommer, Morgan Braughton and Katie Andersen all had two hits and two RBIs for the Lions.

Waterloo West took the second game, 8-4. Christina Lincoln went 3-for-3 for Linn-Mar. Elison Ollinger and Katie Sommer had two hits. Ollinger hit a triple.

Linn-Mar raised its records to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in the MVC.

Sommer helps Lions sweep City High

IOWA CITY - Katie Sommer went 6-for-7 Thursday as the Linn-Mar Lions swept a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader from Iowa City High, 9-4 and 12-8, in Iowa City.

Sommer went 4-for-4 in the first game and was 2-for-3 in the nightcap.

Kristie Sommer and Michaela Smith went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Linn-Mar in the second game. Ariana Rolle hit a two-run homer.

The Lions raised their records to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the MVC.

Linn-Mar tops Marion in softball

Maddy Ryan pitched a six-hit shutout Friday night as Linn-Mar defeated Marion, 5-0, in a girls softball game at the Linn-Mar field.

Christina Lincoln went 2-for-3 and collected an RBI for the Lions. Ryan had a triple and two RBIs. Katie Sommer went 2-for-4.

Ryan raised her record to 3-0.
