Anderson honored on All-Metro tennis

Linn-Mar senior Brady Anderson has been named the Player of the Year on the all-Metro boys tennis team for 2014.

Chris Wundram of Linn-Mar was named the Coach of the year.

Anderson won the Class 2A state title in singles last year and has reached the semifinals of the state doubles tournament this year with Trevor McCann.

Tim Paulson of Linn-Mar, Jackson Hoyt of Washington, Kyle D'mello of Xavier, Caleb Scott of Marion and Jacob Donald of Jefferson joined Anderson on the all-Metro first team.

 

SECOND TEAM

Quinn Jamrock (Kennedy), Aaron Smith (Marion), Trevor McCann (Linn-Mar), Ben Myers (Linn-Mar), Ian Schweiger (Washington), Parker Muller (Washington).

Linn-Mar - Boys Tennis

Anderson, McCann reach state semis

Brady Anderson and Trevor McCann of Linn-Mar sailed into the semifinals of the Class 2A state tennis tournament Friday with a pair of convincing victories in doubles at the Veterans Memorial Tennis Center in Cedar Rapids.

Anderson and McCann, seeded No.4, defeated Trey Van Hemert and Stan Freilinger of Muscatine, 6-1, 6-1, in the opening round. The Lions topped Austin LaVelle and Grant Wright of Norwalk, 6-1, 6-0, in the quarterfinals. Anderson and McCann will face Adam Dellos and Trent Schneider of Iowa City West, the No.1 seed, in the semifinals Saturday at 10 a.m.

David DiLeo and Karl Wenzel of Iowa City West will meet Brennan Ashwood and Vineel Mallavarapa of Cedar Falls in the other semifinal at Class 2A doubles. The championship match is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Linn-Mar - Boys Tennis

Lions reach state tennis meet

CLINTON - The Linn-Mar Lions defeated Pleasant Valley, 5-1, in the Class 2A substate finals Saturday and earned a spot in the state team tennis tournament for only the second time since 1988.

Linn-Mar blanked Muscatine in the substate semifinals, 5-0, earlier in the day.

Brady Anderson of Linn-Mar defeated Charlie Humes of Pleasant Valley, 6-4, 6-2, in a rematch of the 2013 state finals. Anderson won the state title last year with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Humes.

The 2014 state team tournament will be held in Ankeny June 3 with four teams competing.

Metro players net MVC tennis honors

Brady Anderson of Linn-Mar and Vale Caro of Prairie have been named Athletes of the Year on the Mississippi Valley Conference all-star tennis teams in the Valley Division.

Jackson Hoyt (Washington), Tim Paulson (Linn-Mar), Kyle D'mello (Xavier) and Jacob Donald (Jefferson) joined Anderson as first-team selections on the boys first-team honor squad.

Magui Caro (Prairie), Lilly Hartman (Washington), Hannah Sherman (Washington) and Jessica Pedersen (Kennedy) joined Vale Caro on the girls first-team honor squad.

Chris Wundram of Linn-Mar was named the Valley Division Coach of the Year for the boys. Scott Leggat of Prairie was named the Valley Division Coach of the Year for the girls.
