Linn-Mar boys blank Prairie in boys tennis

Linn-Mar lost only three games in singles and routed Prairie, 9-0, Tuesday in Mississippi Valley Conference boys tennis at Linn-Mar.

"We had a fast start in singles and really played well in all six singles matches," Linn-Mar Coach Chris Wundram said. "We had some new guys (Tim Bancks, Dane Kester, Michael Weems and John Richards) come in for doubles and they really stepped up and played some good tennis to win their matches."

Linn-Mar improved to 9-2 overall, 8-1 in the MVC.

Anderson, McCann wins propel Lions at Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS - Brady Anderson battled for a tough three-set victory at No.1 singles Saturday afternoon to help Linn-Mar top Cedar Falls, 8-1, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet.

Tyler McCann, Gavin Young, Dillon Einck and Scott Kleyman also won singles matches for the Lions (8-2, 7-1). Anderson and McCann defeated players who qualified for the state meet last year.

"Brady Anderson and Dillon Einck came up with big wins in singles," Coach Chris Wundram said. "Both of them faced match points but battled back, which really shows their character and how much they want to win."

Linn-Mar's meet at Waterloo East Saturday morning was postponed by rain.

Short-handed Lions make short work of Saints

A little bit of illness at the top of the lineup and a school conflict at the bottom couldn't stop the Linn-Mar Lions from rolling past Xavier, 8-1, in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys tennis meet.

The Lions were without No. 1 singles player Brady Anderson, who was out with the flu, and No. 6 singles player Jack Frank, who had a school commitment.

Tyler McCann stepped in at No. 1 and beat Xavier's Noah Schmall, 6-2, 6-3, to start the Linn-Mar rout.

Seven of Linn-Mar's wins were in straight sets.

"We had some guys out tonight but we didn't miss a beat," Linn-Mar Coach Chris Wundram said. "Our guys stepped up and played tough against a good Xavier team."

The Lions improved to 7-2 overall and 6-1 in the MVC.

Lions roll past Kennedy in boys tennis

Kennedy's Riley Galbraith beat Brady Anderson at No. 1 singles, but that was the Cougars' lone highlight of the night Wednesday at Linn-Mar.

The Lions won the rest of the matches and posted an 8-1 win that was Kennedy's first loss of the season.

"We played well tonight against a team that has a ton of experience on their roster," Linn-Mar Coach Chris Wundram said. Kennedy has five seniors in its top six. "It's an encouraging sign and hopefully we can build on this win."

Linn-Mar is 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the MVC.
