Linn-Mar decks Dowling in regional mats

Alijah Jeffery and Ross Lembeck highlighted a seven-pin performance by Linn-Mar wrestlers and the Lions routed Dowling Catholic, 53-18, Wednesday night in a Class 3A regional meet at Linn-Mar.

Linn-Mar (22-6) qualified for the state dual meet tournament next Wednesday (Feb. 19) at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

The Lions are seeded fifth and will meet fourth-seeded Prairie (20-3) in the quarterfinals at 9 a.m.

Jeffery pinned his Dowling foe in 34 seconds at 120 pounds and Lembeck recorded a 35-second fall at 152.

Lembeck brothers help Lions, Saints

You'll have to excuse the Lembeck brothers if they rooted against their own teammates a little bit Thursday night.

Ross Lembeck wrestles for Linn-Mar and his brother, Clint, competes for Xavier, and their teams faced each other in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at Xavier.

Ross Lembeck, a senior who is ranked No.1 at 152 pounds for the Lions, returned from a knee injury and pinned his opponent. Clint Lembeck, a sophomore who is ranked No.4 at 132 pounds for the Saints, defeated sixth-ranked Matt Wempen, 5-1.

Linn-Mar won the meet, 43-18.

Linn-Mar matmen capture Clinton title

CLINTON - Alijah Jeffery, Matt Wempen, Shea Hartzler and Andrew Holladay won titles Saturday as the Linn-Mar Lions captured the Bob Lueders Invitational in Clinton.

The Lions finished with 191.5 points in the 21-team tournament. Clinton and Davenport Assumption tied for second place with 171 points.

Jeffery won the 120-pound title by pinning Rees Hauder of Hempstead in 3:12 in the finals. Wempen took top honors at 132 with a 10-2 major decision over Logan Mays of Wilton.

Hartzler claimed the 160-pound crown with a 6-2 verdict over Jake Kagemann of DeWitt Central in the championship match. Holladay pinned Justin Guilliams of Clinton in 1:38 in the finals at 195 pounds.

Lions flatten Wahawks and Warriors

Linn-Mar wrestlers recorded nine pins Thursday in a sweep of a Mississippi Valley Conference double dual at Linn-Mar.

The Lions had seven falls and beat Waterloo West, 54-21.

Linn-Mar had only two pins, but was aided by nine forfeits in a 71-11 blitz of Washington.

Toby Northrup was the only Linn-Mar athlete to win two contested matches. He had a pin against West and a technical fall against Washington.

Lions split mat meets with IC West, Wahlert

DUBUQUE - Andrew Holladay had a pair of pins Tuesday night for Linn-Mar and the Lions split two dual wrestling meets at Dubuque Wahlert.

Linn-Mar beat Wahlert, 42-31, and lost to Iowa City West, 43-23.

Holladay notched his pins at 195 pounds. Alex Streicher (126) and Matthew Wempen (138) also won twice.

Linn-Mar was aided by three forfeits in its win over Wahlert.
