Armstrong named Metro's top player

Kayla Armstrong added another honor to her growing list Tuesday.

Armstrong was named the Metro Player of the Year by the local coaches. She already has been named first team all-state, the Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division Player of the Year, and captain of the Class 2A all-tournament team.

Armstrong was joined by Xavier teammates Sammi Shepard and Monica Busse on the all-Metro first team.

The Midnight Hoops Summer League is a second-year men's basketball league.

Lasecki, Pedersen top all-Metro tennis

Sarah Lasecki and Jessica Pedersen of Kennedy High School were unanimous first-team selections on the 2013 All-Metro Women's Tennis Team.

They were joined on the first team by Allison Jasper of Xavier, Kristin King of Washington, Lilly Hartman of Washington and Ashley Smith of Linn-Mar.

Lindsay Dunkirk of Xavier was named the Metro Coach of the Year.

Times set for MSR Classic basketball

Do you like Metro boys basketball?

All eight Metro boys basketball teams will play in the MSR Classic on Saturday, Nov. 30 at Johnson Hall on the Kirkwood Community College campus.

All-Metro girls golf team selected

Maddie Bertsch of Xavier, MJ Kamin of Washington, Grace Winker of Xavier, Ali Lindo of Kennedy and Taylor Utter of Prairie were unanimous picks for the 2013 All-Metro girls golf team announced Thursday.

Emma Lorenz of Linn-Mar joined them on the first team.

Julie Kadlec of Xavier was named the Metro Coach of the Year.
