Evans, Jones, Jacobus top all-Metro track

Josh Evans of Linn-Mar, Timauntay Jones of Jefferson and Derek Jacobus of Kennedy are three of the featured athletes on the 2013 All-Metro Boys Track Team.

Evans, Jones and Jacobus won titles at the state track meet this month. Evans claimed the 3200 meter run, Jones took the 800 meter run and Jacobus captured the long jump.

The Linn-Mar Lions won the Class 4A team championship at the state meet. The Lions also won the 4x200 relay and 1600 medley at state.

Anderson honored on Metro tennis team

Linn-Mar junior Brady Anderson has been named the Player of the Year on the 2013 All-Metro Boys Tennis Team.

Anderson won the Class 2A state singles title on Saturday with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, becoming only the second player in state history to win the title without losing a game in the finals.

Chris Wundram of Linn-Mar was named the Metro Coach of the Year.

Bergstrom saluted on all-Metro soccer

Austin Bergstrom of Cedar Rapids Washington has been named the Athlete of the Year on the 2013 All-Metro Men's Soccer Team.

Mike Robertson and Steve Robertson, the co-coaches at Kennedy, shared the Coach of the Year award.

Jenks, J-Hawks top all-Metro girls track

Linn-Mar freshman Stephanie Jenks and the Jefferson J-Hawks, who won the 4x200 meter relay at the Class 4A state meet last week, are the headliners on the 2013 All-Metro girls track team announced Friday.

Jenks won the 1500 and 3000 meter runs at the state meet. The Jefferson quartet of Maliya Rattliffe, Lucy Schneekloth, Jasmine Blue and Rachel Broghammer broke the state record when they won the 4x200 relay in Des Moines.

Bill Calloway of Jefferson has been named the Metro Coach of the Year.

Metro tourney starts baseball season

A new head coach and a brand-new field will be featured in the 2013 Bob Vrbicek Metro Baseball Tournament that starts Monday.

Kyle Rodenkirk has returned to his alma mater as Jefferson's new head coach, and he'll have the distinction of participating in the first game at the new $3.2 million Linn-Mar baseball/softball complex when the J-Hawks face Xavier at 5 p.m.

Linn-Mar will meet Prairie in the second game at the new Linn-Mar complex at 7 p.m. in an early battle of projected Metro powers.
