Xavier girls remain No. 1 in soccer poll

The Xavier girls soccer team is still ranked No. 1 in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union polls released Thursday.

The Saints (5-0) are among four Metro teams in the rankings. Linn-Mar is fifth, Kennedy ninth and Washington 10th in Class 3A. Jefferson and Prairie, ranked 14th in 3A and 12th in 2A, respectively, a week ago dropped out of the rankings.

Xavier, Linn-Mar and Kennedy held their spots in the polls. Washington dropped two spots from last week's rankings.

West Des Moines Valley is ranked No. 1 and Iowa City West No. 2 in Class 3A.

Pleasant Valley is ranked second behind Xavier in Class 2A.

Union of LaPorte City is No. 1 in 1A, followed by Dubuque Wahlert.

Marion breaks into rankings

Undefeated Marion (4-0) broke into the Class 2A rankings at No. 15 in the polls released by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Xavier (4-1-1) remained No. 1 in Class 2A.

Three Metro teams are ranked in the Class 3A poll. Kennedy is fourth, Washington seventh and Linn-Mar 12th.

West Des Moines Valley, despite a loss to Pleasant Valley last weekend, remains the top ranked team in Class 3A.

Xavier girls still No. 1; Warriors up to 8th

The Xavier girls soccer team is still ranked No. 1 in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union polls released Friday.

Four Metro teams are ranked among the top 15 in Class 3A. Linn-Mar is fifth, Washington eighth, Kennedy ninth and Jefferson 14th. Prairie broke into the Class 2A rankings at No. 12.

Linn-Mar and Kennedy each dropped a spot from the preseason poll while Washington shot up six spots. Jefferson dropped three spots and likely was headed out of the poll until it shocked Kennedy, 1-0, Thursday night.

West Des Moines Valley is ranked No. 1 and Iowa City West No. 2 in Class 3A. West's game against Washington at Kingston Stadium Friday night was postponed by bad weather. It will be made up Tuesday (April 19).

Pleasant Valley is ranked second behind Xavier in Class 2A.

Union of LaPorte City is No. 1 in 1A, followed by Dubuque Wahlert.

Xavier No. 1, Kennedy No. 3 in boys soccer rankings

Despite a 3-2 loss to Cedar Falls earlier in the week, Xavier held onto the No. 1 spot in the Class 2A boys soccer rankings released Wednesday by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Kennedy and Washington held onto the Nos. 3 and 7 spots and Linn-Mar moved up to No. 10 in the 3A poll. Prairie, ranked 13th a week ago, fell out of the poll.

West Des Moines Valley and Dowling remained the top two teams in the Class 3A poll. Kennedy plays at Valley on Friday night.

Dubuque Wahlert, which was beaten by Washington Monday night at Kingston Stadium, is still No. 2 in the 2A poll behind Xavier. Marion, winners of 15 of its last 16 games dating back to last season, was among the teams receiving votes.

Iowa City Regina is still No. 1 in 1A.

District/Regional track sites released

Boys and girls track teams representing five Metro schools will run in the same district and regional meets on May 12, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union announced Tuesday.

The boys and girls teams from Jefferson, Kennedy, Washington, Prairie and Xavier have been assigned to the Class 4A district/regional meets at Iowa City High.  Lin-Mar's teams will run in the 4A meets at Dubuque Hempstead and Marion's at the 3A meets at DeWitt Central.

The boys and girls state track meet is May 19-21 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
