LINN-MAR BOYS WIN 4A STATE TITLE -- Linn-Mar did not win a single event Saturday, but the Lions' depth powered them to the Class 4A state track title at Des Moines ... Josh Evans was second in the 1600 and third in the 800 ... Perrion Scott was second in the 200 and third in the 100 ... The Lions also were third in the 4x100 relay ..... Jefferson senior Timauntay Jones won the 800 meters ... Linn-Mar freshman Stephanie Jenks won the girls 1500 and was second in the 800 meters ... Anderson named principal at Prairie

Erik Anderson has been named the new principal at Cedar Rapids Prairie High School, pending board approval.

Anderson has worked in the College Community School district for 13 years and has served as interim principal since February.

Anderson is a native of Pocahontas, Iowa. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Northern Iowa.

Coach James Moses: A big name with solid values

There is a rich tradition of successful sports at Cedar Rapids Prairie, and basketball is no exception. Athletic programs are cyclical by nature, and the cycle has not been kind to the Prairie Hawk basketball program in recent times.

In the past 10 years there have been a number of coaching changes, and in the last six years a number of players from the Prairie district opted to open-enroll in other area high school programs. But that is mere background music for the current situation at Prairie.

Former basketball coach and current Athletic Director Rocky Bennett spent last summer locating a big-name coach to turn the fortunes of Prairie basketball back to the up cycle. He selected James Moses, former star for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Prairie gridiron gets facelift

 

Anyone familiar with outdoor activities at Prairie High School over the years probably also is familiar with with occasional football games played in mud, canceled band practices and other inconveniences brought on by the Iowa weather.

Those problems should be history  soon, thanks to a large-scale renovation of John Wall Field that’s scheduled to be finished before next football season. It’s the latest phase in a series of facilities improvements at Prairie, where upgrades for the baseball and softball programs are nearing completion and a 1,000-seat concert hall has been in use for a couple of years.
