J-Hawk girls fall to Waterloo West

WATERLOO - Maddie Slagle of Jefferson defeated Madison Chidester of Waterloo West, 10-1, at No. 4 singles Tuesday in their Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet in Waterloo.

Waterloo West won the contest, 8-1.

The Jefferson girls tennis team lost to Cedar Falls, 8-1, Monday in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at Jefferson.

Maddie Slagle of Jefferson defeated Rachel Paup, 10-6, at No. 4 singles.

CEDAR FALLS - The Jefferson boys tennis team was shut out by eighth-ranked Cedar Falls, 9-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet in Cedar Falls

Monday.

Andy Mong clipped Alex Tvedte, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.

Jefferson boys fall to Waterloo West

WATERLOO - The Cedar Rapids Jefferson boys soccer team dropped a 5-1 verdict to Waterloo West Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference match in Waterloo.

Anton Ndayishimi scored the goal for Jefferson with an assist from Jacob Chiza.

 

Jefferson boys fall to City High

IOWA CITY - The Cedar Rapids Jefferson boys tennis team lost to Iowa City High, 8-1, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet in Iowa City Tuesday.

Jason Chung and Nick Standefer picked up a point for the J-Hawks with a 2-6, 7-6, 14-12 victory in a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles.

Kylie Jonas of Jefferson lost to Morgan Streff of Dubuque Hempstead, 10-6, at No. 1 singles Thursday in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet at Jefferson.

Hempstead swept the meet, 9-0.

Jefferson boys net win in Dubuque

DUBUQUE - Alex Tvedte of Jefferson topped Luke Ellert-Beck, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles Thursday as the J-Hawks defeated Dubuque Hempstead in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet in Dubuque.

Jason Chung, Kellen Brown and Chris Weisbein also won their singles matches for Jefferson.

Rams top Saints, J-Hawks in MVC meet

Dubuque Senior dominated a Mississippi Valley Conference triangular girls golf meet at St. Andrews Thursday.

The Rams finished with 190 strokes, followed by Xavier (256) and Jefferson (262).

Maddie Hawkins of Dubuque was the medalist at 7-over-par 42.

XAVIER: Shelby Younggreen 56, Madi Ries 57, Shelby Olson 67, Jordyn Boge 76.

JEFFERSON: Regan Grekoff 55, Emily Smith 66, Jordan Henderson 66, Ciara Hammons 76.

 

Wensel sizzles in 400 for Linn-Mar

IOWA CITY - Linn-Mar freshman Payton Wensel ran the fastest time in the state this year in the 400 meter dash Thursday when she won the event in 56.25 seconds at the Iowa City West Invitational.

Wensel broke the Linn-Mar school record in the 400. She also ran the anchor leg on the triumphant 800 sprint medley with another swift 400.

The Jefferson J-Hawks won six events and Linn-Mar captured five events.

Jefferson's winners were Jasmine Blue in the 100 (12.44), Lucy Schneekloth in the 200 (25.73) and Abbie Ranschau in the 100 hurdles (15.10). Blue, Schneekloth and Ranschau joined Morgan Meese on the victorious 4x100 relay (48.66).

Shalyn Kinney commits to Coe soccer

Cedar Rapids Jefferson senior Shalyn Kinney will continue her promising soccer career at Coe College.

Kinney has been a first team selection on the all-Metro and all-Mississippi Valley Conference teams during her career. She began playing for the Jefferson varsity as a freshman and collected 25 goals and 16 assists during her first three years on the team.

Kinney has three goals and one assist in six games this season, according to the IGHSAU website.
