J-Hawks fall to Hempstead bowlers

DUBUQUE - Dubuque Hempstead built a 46-pin lead in the first round and held on to beat Jefferson, 3041-3011, Tuesday in a boys bowling match at Dubuque.

Noah Tiedtke had a 426 series for Jefferson. Christian Hindt shot high game for the J-Hawks with a 225. Austin Kluth had a 423 series.

Jeff girls struggle in loss to Hempstead

DUBUQUE - The Jefferson girls had a sub-par performance Tuesday and were beaten by Dubuque Hempstead, 2350-2211, in a bowling match at Dubuque.

Holly Miller had high series for the J-Hawks with a 319. Rachel Daugherty had high game with a 169.

Jefferson girls drub Waterloo East, 62-15

Amanda Ollinger scored 15 points and blocked four shots to lead Jefferson past Waterloo East, 62-15, Tuesday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game at Jefferson.

Kennedy Dighton added 11 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Avery Guy had 10 points and five assists for the J-Hawks (4-8, 3-6).

J-Hawks drubbed without Ollinger

WATERLOO - Waterloo West point guard Sammie Sproul finished just one assist shy of a triple-double as she recorded 15 points, 11 steals and nine assists to lift the No.3 Wahawks past Jefferson, 72-40, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game Saturday.

Waterloo West trailed Jefferson by a 7-2 count early before using a 35-2 run to take control of the game. The Wahawks led 51-17 at halftime.

Kate Letkewicz drained five 3-pointers and led West (10-1, 6-1) with 17 points. Mikayla Stokes tallied a career-high 12 points to go with her four rebounds.

Maddie Blietz scored 15 points for Jefferson (3-8, 2-6). Amanda Ollinger did not play for the J-Hawks. She was nursing a sore back Friday night after Jefferson lost at Kennedy.

Olson, Konigsmark spark J-Hawks

Jacob Olson tossed in 19 points and Tyler Konigsmark had 18 Saturday night as Jefferson rolled by Maquoketa, 71-37, in a non-conference basketball game at Jefferson.

Lucas Larson added 12 points for the J-Hawks (2-6).

Jon Ernst scored 15 points for Maquoketa (3-7).

Baker wins title, J-Hawks 2nd at Benton meet

VAN HORNE - Brenden Baker won the 106-pound title and Jefferson also had a pair of runner-up finishers to place second Saturday in the Jerry Eckenrod Invitational wrestling meet at Benton Community High School.

Jefferson's Kyle Briggs (120) and Josh Allen (182) lost in championship bouts. The J-Hawks finished 31 points behind champion Davenport Assumption.

Washington's Trey Schuler won the 132-pound title. The Warriors placed 12th in the team standings.

Murdock helps Cougars trim J-Hawks

Cole Murdock has a nice touch on a golf course for Kennedy High School, which has one of the top golf programs in the state.

He's developing a nice touch on the basketball floor as well.

Murdock tossed in a pair of clutch 3-pointers in the fourth quarter Friday night to help the Cougars fend off Jefferson, 55-52, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Kennedy.

Murdock finished with a team-high 13 points as the Cougars raised their records to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the MVC under first-year coach Jon McKowen.

Jeff girls push No.6 Cougars to limit

Jefferson's Kiddie Corps nearly came of age Friday night.

The young Jefferson girls threw a scare into No.6 Kennedy before falling short, 43-39, in a Mississippi Valley Conference defensive tussle at Kennedy.

The J-Hawks outscored Kennedy, 28-18, in the second half and held the high-powered Cougars to just three field goals in the third and fourth quarters. And when Amanda Ollinger hit a 3-pointer to pull Jefferson within 37-36 with three minutes left, it look like the visiting team might ride the momentum to a monumental victory.

300 Baker buoys J-Hawks past West

The Jefferson boys shot a 300 baker game to help their cause in a win over Iowa City West, 3307-2896, Friday at May City.

Noah Tiedtke had highs for the J-Hawks with a 236 game and 467 series.

Eric Vidhamali had a 224 game and Max Wever had a 446 series for the Trojans.

J-Hawk girls upended by IC West

The Jefferson girls lost a match that was close all the way through to the last baker game when Iowa City West shot a big 252 game to Jeff's 191 and beat the J-Hawks, 2628-2555, Friday at May City.

Abbi Stastny had a 199 game and Savannah Fowler had a 381 series for the J-Hawks.
