Kennedy girls fall to IC West

Jessica Pedersen won her match at No.1 singles Thursday, but that was the only point for Kennedy in an 8-1 loss to Iowa City West in a Mississippi

Valley Conference girls tennis meet at Kennedy.

Pedersen defeated Megan Jans, 10-4.

Kennedy golfers 2nd at Brown Deer

IOWA CITY - Valarie Davidson shot a 13-over-par 48 Thursday to help Kennedy finish in second place in a triangular golf meet at Brown Deer.

Iowa City West won the meet at 188, followed by Kennedy (200) and West Liberty (239).

Kennedy: Valarie Davidson 48, Breanna Osterkamp 49, Sierra Hargens 51, Raemi Chavez 52, Jenna Hauschild 65, Avery Haefner 68.

 

Metro teams win 6 events in Dubuque

DUBUQUE - Metro athletes won six events at the Harold Sweet Tri-State Invitational track meet in Dubuque Thursday.

The Kennedy Cougars claimed three titles with Jacob Shannon in the 200 (22.84), Famiek Cook in the long jump (21-9 3/4) and the 4x100 relay.

The Jefferson J-Hawks captured two gold medals with Nate Karlan in the 100 meter dash (11.29) and the 4x100 relay.

The Washington Warriors won the distance medley.

Monticello won the meet with 89 points. The Prairie Hawks placed second with 87 markers in the 15-team meet. Kennedy finished third, Jefferson

seventh and Washington eighth.

 

 

 

   

No.2 Cougars nip No.4 Lions, 3-2

Mark Schulz scored two goals Thursday night as the second-ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy Cougars trimmed No.4 Linn-Mar, 3-2, in a premier Mississippi Valley Conference boys soccer match at Linn-Mar.

Nikolas Newcamp also scored for Kennedy (2-1). Killian Magee, Jacob Sarasin, JJ Reinhart, Schulz and Reid Botkin collected assists for the Cougars.

Linn-Mar (6-1) took the lead in the 5th minute and again in the 13th minute, but Kennedy rallied each time.

Daniel Luzindya scored both of the goals for Linn-Mar.

The game was tied at halftime, 2-2.

Kennedy boys blanked by IC West

IOWA CITY — The Cedar Rapids Kennedy boys tennis team was blanked by Iowa City West, 9-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet in Iowa City on Thursday.

Blake Oetting of Iowa City West defeated Quinn Jamrock at No.1 singles, 6-0, 6-1.

4 Metro teams ranked in boys soccer

The four premier boys soccer teams in the Metro area are ranked 2-3-4-5 in the polls this week by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association (IAHSSCA).

The Xavier Saints are ranked No.2 in Class 2A. Kennedy is ranked No. 3, Linn-Mar is No. 4 and Washington is No. 5 in Class 3A, through matches of April 12.

Xavier fell from No. 1 to No. 2 in Class 2A. Norwalk replaced the Saints at the top of the rankings.

Kennedy remained No. 3 in Class 3A, but Linn-Mar and Washington traded spots in the No. 4 and No. 5 spots. Iowa City West is ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, followed by Johnston.

Prairie dropped out of the 3A rankings this week.

Moreno leads Lions at Hunters Ridge

Teresa Lopez Moreno tied for medalist honors with a 42 Tuesday to help Linn-Mar win a Mississippi Valley Conference triangular meet at Hunters Ridge.

Maddie Hawkins of Dubuque Senior also shot a 42. Sierra Hargens shot a 43 for Kennedy.

Linn-Mar finished with 185 shots. Kennedy and Dubuque Senior tied at 195.

Linn-Mar: Lopez Moreno 42, Lauren Coughlin 46, Jordan Postma 46, Katie Harding 51.

Kennedy: Sierra Hargens 43, Raemi Chavez 46, Breanna Osterkamp 51, Val Davidson 55, Avery Haefner 55.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kennedy claims Wahawk Relays in Waterloo

WATERLOO - The Kennedy Cougars captured the Wahawk Relays for the first time in school history Tuesday in Waterloo.

Willie Rhoads claimed the high jump (6-4), Derek Jacobus took the long jump (20-5) and Famiek Cook won the 200 meter dash (23.36). The Cougars also won the shuttle hurdle relay (59.06).

Kennedy finished first or second in eight events.

The Cougars scored 110 points to nudge Cedar Falls, which placed second in the 14-team meet with 105 points. Washington finished eighth with 43 points.

No. 2 Kennedy girls boot City High

Morgan Petsche, Marci Christianson and Emily Feltes scored goals Tuesday as the second-ranked Kennedy soccer team blanked Iowa City High, 3-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference match at Kennedy.
