Cougars bump off Cedar Falls, 59-55

CEDAR FALLS - Ryan Schultz's walk from the basketball court to Cedar Falls' locker room is not a long one.

That does not mean the trip down the stairs is easy, especially for a team mired in a seven-game losing streak.

Still, the Tigers' head coach likes what he sees when he enters the locker room and he liked much of what he watched on the court Tuesday. Cedar Falls lost to Cedar Rapids Kennedy, 59-55, on a night when Schultz thought his team played well.

Brian White is new Kennedy football coach

Kennedy Athletics Director Aaron Stecker didn't have far to look to find a new football coach after Tim Lewis resigned in December.

He was right there in the building.

Stecker announced Tuesday that Brian White has been named Kennedy's head football coach.

White has been a Cougar assistant football coach since 2006, serving as defensive coordinator as well as coaching linebackers, running backs and tight ends. He was named the Iowa Football Coaches Association Class 4A assistant football coach of the year in 2010.

Uhlir leads Lions past Cougars, 73-65

Close games are nothing new for Linn-Mar.

The Lions have had their share of contests this season decided in the final minutes. Lately those swing games have gone against the Lions.

Junior guard Nic Uhlir would have none of that in Friday night’s showdown against Mississippi Valley Conference rival Cedar Rapids Kennedy.

The 6-foot sharpshooter was fouled as he nailed the last of his four 3-point baskets with just over a minute to play. He converted the foul shot to give the Lions a six-point lead and they went on to a hard-fought 73-65 road win over the Cougars.

The Washington Warriors made a living against Kennedy last season with three victories against the Cougars, but not this year.
