Kennedy drops a pair of mat duals

WATERLOO - Kennedy lost a pair of wrestling meets Thursday at Waterloo West.

The Cougars were throttled by Iowa City West, 60-9, then dropped a hard-fought decision to Waterloo West, 43-33.

Nolan Hromidko had a pair of pins at 113 pounds for Kennedy.

Hempstead rolls Kennedy boys bowlers

Dubuque Hempstead had four bowlers roll 400 series and breezed past Kennedy, 3285-2797, Thursday in boys bowling at Cedar Rapids Bowl.

Nicholaus Green led Kennedy witha 233 high game and 393 series.

Cougars fall in final event

Dubuque Hempstead used a first-third finish in the last event of the meet to pull out an 87-83 win over Kennedy Thursday night in a boys swimming meet at Kennedy.

Despite winning only four of the first 10 events, Kennedy held a 79-77 lead heading into the final event.

Kennedy's Brennan Urbi, Cade Schoenauer and Stefan Kitsos were double winners.

Cougars up to No.6 in girls rankings

Kennedy moved up two spots to No.6 in this week's Class 5A basketball rankings released Wednesday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Xavier, meanwhile, fell one spot to No.5 in the Class 4A rankings.

The top-ranked teams are Iowa City High (5A), Harlan (4A), MOC-Floyd Valley (3A), Western Christian (2A) and Newell-Fonda (1A).

Kennedy boys bowlers fall to Senior

DUBUQUE - Aaron Smith's 363 series led the Kennedy boys bowlers in a 2876-2506 loss to Dubuque Senior Friday at Cherry Lanes.

Davis Sutton shot a 205 high game for Kennedy.

Senior's Noah Paar led all scorers with a 255 high game and 434 series.

DUBUQUE - Laura Fischer rolled a 340 series, but the Kennedy girls bowlers were beaten Friday by Dubuque Senior, 2430-2229.

Schoenauer shines in pool for Cougars

Freshman Cade Schoenauer won two individual events to lead Kennedy to a 123-43 win over Waterloo East Thursday night in a boys swimming meet at the Cougar pool.

Schoenauer won the 200 and 100 freestyle events. He also swam on the winning 200 free relay.

Sophomores Stefan Kitsos and Brennan Urbi also were triple winners for the Cougars. Kitsos won the 50 free and swam on the 200 medley and 400 free relays. Urbi won the 500 free and swam on the 200 and 400 free relays.

Daniels sparks Cougars by Pointers

CENTER POINT - Zach Daniels popped in 17 points Saturday as the Kennedy Cougars topped Center Point-Urbana, 60-44, in a non-conference game in Center Point.

Kennedy led by only one point at halftime, 26-25, but the Cougars outscored the Stormin' Pointers 34-19 in the second half.

A.J. Carter scored 12 points for Kennedy (5-1) and Bryton Heisler had 11.

Nick Thibault and Levi Gatrost scored 11 points apiece for Center Point-Urbana (0-6).

No.8 Cougars belt No.10 Warriors

Inside domination. Inside presence. Call it what you will.

It added up to an impressive win.

The No.8-ranked Kennedy Cougars used their inside superiority and great defense to stamp an easy 74-49 victory over No.10 Washington at the Warrior gym Friday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game.

Washington dropped to 5-2 overall and had a five-game winning streak halted. Kennedy improved to 7-1. The contest was a non-conference affair on a day when all Cedar Rapids schools were cancelled due to the icy conditions.

Carter lifts Cougars by Wash in OT

You can call him Anthony or you can call him A.J., but just remember to call Anthony "A.J." Carter's name when it's time to win a spirited Metro basketball game.

Carter scored eight of his 16 points in overtime Friday night as Kennedy trimmed Washington, 58-54, in a tense Mississippi Valley Conference game at Washington.

Carter struggled during the first 32 minutes of the ballgame, but he was the difference in the extra four-minute period.

"When he came over in overtime, he had that look in his eye," said Kennedy Coach Jon McKowen. "He said, 'I want the ball.'
