Ollingers lead Lions to double rout of East

Linn-Mar blew out Waterloo East twice Tuesday in Mississippi Valley Conference softball at Linn-Mar.

The Lions won the first game, 11-3, then took the second 14-1 in three innings.

Ellison Ollinger had three hits and drove in three runs in the opener for Linn-Mar (5-10, 4-6).

Alexis Kelsey got the win for Linn-Mar. She allowed three runs over seven innings, struck out three, walked none and gave up five hits.

Linn-Mar plated 11 runs in the second inning of the nightcap. Kortlan Ollinger had a bases-loaded triple, and Jenna Harms drove in three runs with a bases-loaded walk and two-run single.

Lions sweep Wahlert

DUBUQUE - Kyle Mortensen and Brandt Ollinger had three hits apiece in the opener, and Austin Stroschein had three hits in the nightcap as Linn-Mar swept a baseball doubleheader from Dubuque Wahlert Monday night.

The Lions won the first game 7-1 behind Mitch Stickney's four-hitter. They also took the nightcap, 4-3.

Ollinger drove in two runs in the first game and had two doubles.

Jimmy Roth drove in a pair of runs in the second game.

Ben Larson took a shutout into the seventh inning of the nightcap. Wahlert scored three runs, but Nick Jennings put out the fire for a save.

Seven Metro athletes all-state in girls soccer

Seven Metro athletes have been named first team all-state in girls soccer by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

There were two athletes each from Kennedy and Linn-Mar, and three from Xavier.

Kaela Dickerman and Tory Harman of Kennedy, Jensen Sevening and Olivia Garcia of Linn-Mar were named to the Class 3A first team.

Kayla Armstrong, Sammi Shepard and Sarah Chicchelly were named to the Class 2A first team.

Evans sets state record in 1600

LISLE, Ill. - Linn-Mar junior Josh Evans broke the state record in the 1600 meter run Saturday night with his performance at the Midwest Distance Festival at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill.

Evans placed third in an elite field of high school runners in the mile in 4 minutes, 10.79 seconds. He also was clocked for the slightly shorter 1600 meters in 4:08.80, which will become the No.1 time in state history once it is recognized by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

Jack Keelan of St. Ignatius won the mile in 4:07.50. Jacob Poyner of Warsaw High School was second in 4:09.92.

Linn-Mar falls to No.1 Ankeny

The Linn-Mar Lions grabbed an early lead against the top-ranked baseball team in Iowa on Saturday, but it didn't last.

The Ankeny Hawks responded and spanked the Lions, 10-3, in the championship game of the Linn-Mar tournament.

A two-run triple by Mitch Stickney in the second inning gave Linn-Mar its early 3-1 advantage, but the Ankeny bats proved to be too much for the Lions as the visitors collected 12 hits.
