Linn-Mar High School - Marion, Iowa

Jenks wins 3 events for Lions

When you talk about the Linn-Mar girls track team, it doesn't take long for Stephanie Jenks' name to come up.

The sensational freshman has done it all this season for the Lions and it was more of the same at Thursday night's Class 4A state qualifying meet at Linn-Mar Stadium.

Jenks' track schedule has been intertwined with her talents as one of the nation's top triathletes. That has limited her appearances for the Lions. For this week and next, however, it is full-time track for Jenks.

She was a triple winner in the eight-team state qualifier Thursday, taking the 800, 1500 and 3000 meter runs. Jenks' effort led Linn-Mar to a second-place finish behind Iowa City High in the team race.

Scott helps Lions win track title

Perrion Scott said he tried to treat the Class 4A state qualifying meet as just another meet.

He was not altogether successful.

Oh, the results were what Scott wanted. The speedy Linn-Mar sophomore won the 100 and 200 meter dashes and was a part of winning efforts in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays as the Lions took the team title Thursday night at Linn-Mar Stadium.

Linn-Mar won seven events and scored 136 points, outdistancing Iowa City High (117), Cedar Rapids Prairie (112) and Cedar Rapids Kennedy (106).

All event winners and runners-up in each of the six state qualifying meets earn automatic spots at state. The next 12 best performances from the six meets also earn state berths.
