Linn-Mar sweeps a pair in boys tennis

Linn-Mar swept a pair of boys tennis meets against Metro foes Saturday.

The Lions beat Kennedy, 6-0, in a match shortened by weather. The Lions beat Washington, 7-2.

Brady Anderson, Trevor McCann, John Kuster and Ben Myers all won a pair of singles matches for Linn-Mar.

Linn-Mar trumps Kennedy in shootout

Kayla Kvach's goal on the seventh penalty kick in a shootout lifted No.7 Linn-Mar past No.5 Kennedy, 1-0, Thursday in Mississippi Valley Conference girls soccer at Linn-Mar.

Neither team scored in regulation or overtime. The Cougars had a goal disallowed due to an offside call.

The Lions won the PK shootout, 7-6. Linn-Mar goalkeeper Rylie Frese preserved the victory by making the final save of the match.

Evans breaks 3200 mark at Wilkinson

Linn-Mar junior Josh Evans set a meet record in the 3200 meter run Friday at the 27th Annual Wilkinson Relays at Kingston Stadium.

Evans made eight trips around the track in 9:21.01, snapping the old mark of 9:24.87 that had stood since 1993.

Linn-Mar won seven events and captured the team championship with 123 points. The Marion Indians claimed second place with 84 points, nipping Prairie and Kennedy by a single point for runnerup honors in the seven-team Metro field.

Kehe named Linn-Mar volleyball coach

Teresa Kehe, one of the most successful prep volleyball coaches in state history, has been named the new volleyball coach at Linn-Mar High School.

Kehe won six state titles at Tripoli High School and led the Panthers to the state finals eight straight years from 1998 to 2005.

Kehe compiled a 579-140-37 record in 23 years at Tripoli. She twice was a finalist for National Coach of the Year and was inducted into the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2011.

Linn-Mar girls take Mount Vernon Relays

MOUNT VERNON - Amber Decker captured the 800 meter run Saturday to help the Linn-Mar Lions win the Mount Vernon Relays.

Decker circled the track in 2:20.19 for her victory.

Linn-Mar also won the distance medley and sprint medley.
