Linn-Mar boys outlast Xavier bowlers

Linn-Mar built a 53-pin lead in the first round and held on to beat Xavier, 3080-3012, Friday in boys bowling at May City Bowl.

Xavier's Zach Klimesh had high game (236) and series (442).

Justin Wyant had high game for Linn-Mar with a 232. Dreyson Robe had high series with a 434, followed closely by Trent Jochimsen's 431.

Routhe red-hot in loss to Xavier

Xavier built a 95-pin lead in the first round and held on to beat Linn-Mar, 2430-2347, Friday in girls bowling at May City Bowl.

Tara Trcka had the line for the Saints rolling games of 191 and 213 for a team-high 404 series. Abbey Konzen was close behind with a 211 high game and 387 series.

McKenzie Routhe was on fire for Linn-Mar, firing games of 206 and 278 for a 484 series.

Lions flatten Warriors, Wahawks

Linn-Mar wrestlers recorded 10 pins and the No.4 Lions flattened two foes Thursday in prep wrestling at Washington.

The Lions whipped Waterloo West, 62-14, and Washington, 70-12.

Dakota Digmann, Andrew Holladay, Noah Ajram, Matthew Wempen and Shea Hartzler had falls against West. The Lions also won four matches by forfeit.

Sam Nowak, Justin Green, Alijah Jeffery, Joel Northrup and Digmann had pins against Washington. The Lions picked up five forfeit victories.

Trenary and Greve post wins

Duggan Trenary won the 100 butterfly and Calvin Greve the 100 backstroke Tuesday night in a losing effort for the Linn-Mar swimmers.

Linn-Mar was swamped by Dubuque Senior, 116-54, in boys swimming at the Coe Natatorium.

Senior won nine of 11 events.

Greve leaving Lions for Chi-Town Cream

Linn-Mar senior Nate Greve struggled with the decision for several months, weighing the pros and cons as he contemplated his baseball career.

Should he play his senior year with the Lions and try to help them get back to the Class 4A state tournament? Or should he take a bold step and play for an elite travel team that might better prepare him for college baseball?

"It was a very tough decision," he said.

His heart was with the Lions, but he's decided to cast his lot with the Chi-Town Cream and skip the 2013 high school baseball campaign.
