Uhlir's two free throws lift Lions

WAUKEE - Nic Uhlir made two free throws with 3.3 seconds left to lift Linn-Mar past Waukee, 41-39, Tuesday night in boys basketball.

Matt Lassen led Linn-Mar (1-0) with 11 points and Jordan Bohannon added 10 points, knocking down all three of his 3-point attempts.

Waukee (0-1) was led by Michael Jacobson's 12 points.

Linn-Mar played without Jimmy Roth, who is suspended for a violation of school rules.

 

Linn-Mar 2nd, Prairie 5th in wrestling poll

The Linn-Mar Lions have been ranked second in the Class 3A preseason wrestling poll by The Predicament, one spot behind Southeast Polk.

The Prairie Hawks are ranked fifth.

Three Linn-Mar wrestlers are ranked No. 1 in their weight class with Matt Wempen (113), Alijah Jeffery (120) and Ross Lembeck (152). Wempen is a defending state champion.

Linn-Mar topped by No. 4 Muscatine

MUSCATINE - Emily Clemens and Leticia Lerma scored 16 points apiece Saturday night as fourth-ranked Muscatine defeated Linn-Mar, 61-38, in a Class 5A girls basketball game in Muscatine.

Sara Strauel led Linn-Mar (1-1) with nine points. Kristen Eiles scored eight points for the Lions.

Muscatine (3-0) hit 21 of 33 shots for 63.6 percent.

Linn-Mar girls open with win

KEOKUK - Mykaela Brandt scored 18 points and Sara Strauel added 12 to lead Linn-Mar past Keokuk, 58-43, Tuesday night in a girls basketball season opener.

Linn-Mar led 31-26 at halftime, then used a 14-5 spurt in the third quarter to pull away for the win.

Courtney Major added eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Lions.

4 Linn-Mar athletes to ink letters of intent

Four Linn-Mar High School athletes plan to sign their national letter-of-intent Wednesday during a ceremony at the school.

Megan Allmandinger plans to play volleyball at Grand View University.

Courtney Major will play basketball at Upper Iowa University and Alexis Libenguth will play basketball at Maryville University.

Nate Greve plans to sign a national letter-of-intent to play baseball at Barry University.

The ceremony will be held Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. in the media center at the high school.
