Jenks wins Illinois race by 43 seconds

AURORA, Ill. - Linn-Mar freshman Stephanie Jenks won the Charger Classic Invitational cross country meet by nearly 43 seconds Saturday at Oakhurst Park in Aurora, Ill.

Jenks is ranked No. 1 in Class 4A in Iowa, and after Saturday's performance she undoubtedly would rank extremely high in Illinois as well.

Jenks covered the course in 16 minutes, 17.9 seconds to run away with the individual title. Skyler Bollinger of Yorkville, Ill., placed a distant second in 17:00.4.

Lions miss chances against No. 2 Tigers

Linn-Mar gifted Cedar Falls a pair of second-half touchdowns with two costly fumbles, then failed to score twice inside the red zone.

The Lions gave the second-ranked Tigers a tussle at home Friday night, but the blown plays and missed opportunities dearly cost them in a 27-10 loss.

On paper, Linn-Mar (1-4, 1-2) actually held the edge with 21 first downs to 12 for the visitors. Each team had 289 total yards, equally mixed between rushing and passing.

Evans, Jenks jump to No. 1 in X-C rankings

Josh Evans and Stephanie Jenks from Linn-Mar High School jumped to the top of the Class 4A cross country rankings Wednesday.

Evans and Jenks climbed to No. 1 after posting impressive victories at the Heartland Classic in Ames last Saturday. Evans, a junior, won his race by nine seconds. Jenks, a freshman, captured her event by 14 seconds.

Evans finished second behind Ben Anderson of West Des Moines Valley at the state meet last year, but now Evans is ranked No. 1 and Anderson is No. 2 in the rankings.

Lions sunk by No. 3 Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS - The 10th-ranked Linn-Mar High School swimming team got thoroughly drenched by No. 3 Cedar Falls Tuesday night, 128-58, in a Mississippi Valley Conference dual meet.

The Tigers won all 12 events.

Linn-Mar finished second in the medley relay and 400 freestyle relay. The Lions also got runnerup showings from Lauren Reynolds (200 IM), Lizzie Adams (50 free), Mikaela Lengwin (diving) and Lauren Dalecky (100 breaststroke).

Lions claim quad by 1 stroke

IOWA CITY - Trevor McCann tied for medalist honors and Linn-Mar squeaked out a one-shot win Monday at the Iowa City West quadrangular at Finkbine golf course.

McCann and Iowa City West's Jacob Federici both shot 40 for low honors.

Linn-Mar finished first with a 171. West was second at 172 and Dubuque Wahlert third at 173.
