Adams helps Linn-Mar win title at Muscatine

MUSCATINE - Lizzie Adams won three events Saturday as the Linn-Mar Lions claimed top honors at the Muscatine Invitational swim meet.

Adams captured the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle titles and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay with Lauren Dalecky, Emily Kraemer and Lauren Reynolds.

Dalecky also won the 100 breaststroke. Alyssa Deuso captured the diving crown for the Lions.

Linn-Mar won the seven-team meet with 408 points. Muscatine finished second with 355 points.

Linn-Mar falls in 3 OTs to Dubuque Senior

DUBUQUE - The Late Show with the Linn-Mar Lions had an unhappy ending Thursday night.

Ben Martin kicked a 23-yard field goal to give Dubuque Senior a 39-36 victory over the Lions in triple overtime in a Mississippi Valley Conference game that was played at the University of Dubuque football field.

The game did not end until after 11 p.m.

Lions hold off Cougars in the pool

Linn-Mar won seven of 11 events and squeezed past Kennedy, 96-90, in a girls swimming meet at Coe.

Seniors Lauren Dalecky and Lauren Reynolds, and freshman Stephanie Jenks won two events apiece for Linn-Mar.

Dalecky won the breaststroke and swam on the winning medley relay. Reynolds won the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly. Jenks won the 200 and 500 freestyle.

Josh Evans wins title at Prairie Invy

Josh Evans finished second at the Class 4A state cross country meet last fall as a sophomore, which was a terrific accomplishment for someone so young.

He's proud of that silver medal, but sorely wants to reach the top this year.

"I am beyond motivated," Evans said Saturday morning after claiming top honors at the Prairie Invitational. "I've got little note cards pinned on my wall with my goals for state this fall.

Linn-Mar drilled by Iowa City West

It was a game of inexperience against experience.

And it was no contest as Linn-Mar lost its season opener, 49-14, at home to Iowa City West Friday night.

“Our young kids were so nervous I don’t think they started to breathe until the second quarter,” said Lions Coach Bob Forsyth.
