No. 5 Linn-Mar dumped by No. 6 Waukee

WEST DES MOINES -- Waukee scored on a header off a corner kick to upset Linn-Mar, 2-1, Friday night in a battle of ranked girls soccer teams at West Des Moines Valley.

Maddie Saville scored the only goal for fifth-ranked Linn-Mar off an assist from Olivia Garcia.

No. 6 Waukee was the beneficiary of an own goal by Linn-Mar.

Botsford 2nd in regional singles tourney

BETTENDORF -- Linn-Mar's Gabi Botsford finished second in singles and the Kennedy doubles team of Sarah Lasecki and Lindsay Minder were second in doubles Thursday in a Class 2A singles and doubles regional girls tennis tournament.

Rachel Herman of Davenport Central beat Botsford, 7-6(5), 7-5, in the singles final.

Herman ousted the Lions' Ashley Smith, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3), in the semifinals. Smith defaulted in the third-place match.

Austin Wolter's 4 goals lead Linn-Mar rout

WATERLOO -- Linn-Mar's Austin Wolter scored four goals and 11 other Lions also scored in a 19-0 rout of Waterloo East in boys soccer Tuesday.

Eric Pfau, Avery Meyer, Joao Travesso and Matt McKillip scoed two goals apiece for Linn-Mar.

Linn-Mar is 6-11 overall, 5-7 in the MVC.

Lions split with Xavier and Kennedy

The Linn-Mar girls socccer team put their No. 8 ranking up against a pair of ranked foes Saturday.

The Lions came out with a split.

Marissa Berutti's goal with 43 seconds left in the game sent Class 2A No. 1 Xavier past Linn-Mar, 2-1, at Xavier.

Linn-Mar, Marion boys eye state track crowns

The city of Marion could become the state capital for boys track in Iowa next week.

The Linn-Mar Lions and Marion Indians will be taking strong contingents to the state track meet in Des Moines, with the Lions among the favorites in Class 4A and the surging Indians among the top picks in Class 3A.

Linn-Mar has firepower at the top of its lineup and is seeded first or second in seven events. Marion has impressive depth, having qualified in 15 of 18 events, giving the Indians a good chance of finishing near the top of the team standings.

"I would say if we're not in the top two or three I'd be pretty disappointed," said Marion Coach Scott Immerfall.
