Lions escape upset bid by Warriors

Jordan Bohannon scored 15 points Friday night and Nic Uhlir netted 14 as the Linn-Mar Lions held off Washington, 56-52, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Linn-Mar.

Steven Kramer led Washington with 19 points and had a chance to give the Warriors a 55-54 lead in the final seconds, but his 3-point shot rolled around the rim and fell out.

Kramer hit five 3-pointers for Washington (2-12, 2-8).

Jon Schlotterback contributed 11 points for Linn-Mar (9-6, 7-3).

No.8 Warriors hold off scrappy Lions

Dani Franklin is proud of what her mother accomplished during the six-player era of girls basketball at Cedar Rapids Washington in the 1970's, but she prefers the five-player game just fine.

"I like the game the way it is now. Definitely," she said Friday night.

Franklin made consecutive 3-pointers in the first half to fuel a 15-0 run and the Class 5A eight-ranked Warriors held off Linn-Mar, 62-56, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Washington.

Deb Franklin scored 1,394 points for the Warriors back in the days when players never crossed mid-court. Dani Franklin has pumped in 1,055 points now, making them a rare mother/daughter combo with more than 1,000 apiece.

Wahawks bowl over Linn-Mar girls

WATERLOO - Waterloo West had a pair of bowlers roll 451 series and cruised past Linn-Mar, 3044-2706, Friday in girls bowling at Maple Lanes.

Kayla Johnson led Linn-Mar with a 409 series. Doriann Whitlock shot high game of 237 for the Lions.

West's Abby Fangman had overall high game with a 265. She tied teammate Jordan Newman for high series of 451.

Lions steamrolled by Wahawk bowlers

WATERLOO - Raymond Glueck shot a 444 series for Linn-Mar, but the Lions were no match for hot-shoooting Waterloo West Friday afternoon at Maple Lanes.

West had four bowlers shoot 442 or better and the Wahawks whipped the Lions, 3401-3086, in boys bowling.

Andrew Gerst shot a 288 high game and had high series of 507 for West.

Seth Tegtmeier rolled a 248 high game to lead the Lions.

Linn-Mar inducting 9 into Hall of Fame

Linn-Mar High School will induct nine people into its Athletic Hall of Fame this Friday prior to the boys basketball game against Cedar Rapids Washington.

The new inductees are Bob Carey, Erin (Strellner) Stanley, Brad Reid, Amy (Osenbaugh) Brinkmeyer, Arnold "Tex" McCoy, Scott Underwood, John Kress, Lindsey Digmann and Jordan Printy.

Carey coached football, basketball, baseball and softball in the Linn-Mar district and was the athletic director from 1988-94. He retired in 1998 but continues to serve as a volunteer in the Linn-Mar press box for football games.
