Uhlir scores 29 in Lions' win

WATERLOO - Nic Uhlir scored 29 points to lead Linn-Mar past Waterloo West, 68-64, Tuesday in Mississippi Valley Conference boys basketball at West.

Uhlir drained six of the Lions' nine 3-pointers. Jordan Bohannon added 15 points for Linn-Mar (8-6, 6-3).

No.6 Waterloo West whips Lions, 48-37

Waterloo West's Haley Puk scored 18 points and the sixth-ranked Wahawks used a 12-point advantage in the second quarter to down Linn-Mar, 48-37, Tuesday in Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball at Linn-Mar.

Blaire Thomas added 13 points for West (15-2, 7-2).

Katie Sommer scored 12 points to lead Linn-Mar (10-7, 5-3). Kristie Sommer was limited to three free throws for the Lions.

Linn-Mar girls fall at Waukee

WAUKEE - Reilly Jacobson scored 18 points Saturday as Waukee defeated Linn-Mar, 58-52, in a girls basketball game in Waukee.

Anna Kollmorgen collected 16 points for Waukee and Taylor Wingert had 15.

Kristie Sommer led Linn-Mar (10-6) with 17 points, six rebounds and five assists. Aryn Jones chipped in with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Nikita Sharma had eight rebounds.

Linn-Mar matmen capture Clinton title

CLINTON - Alijah Jeffery, Matt Wempen, Shea Hartzler and Andrew Holladay won titles Saturday as the Linn-Mar Lions captured the Bob Lueders Invitational in Clinton.

The Lions finished with 191.5 points in the 21-team tournament. Clinton and Davenport Assumption tied for second place with 171 points.

Jeffery won the 120-pound title by pinning Rees Hauder of Hempstead in 3:12 in the finals. Wempen took top honors at 132 with a 10-2 major decision over Logan Mays of Wilton.

Hartzler claimed the 160-pound crown with a 6-2 verdict over Jake Kagemann of DeWitt Central in the championship match. Holladay pinned Justin Guilliams of Clinton in 1:38 in the finals at 195 pounds.

Sommer girls help Lions spank Saints

Linn-Mar’s wonder twins were reunited Friday night after being apart for three-plus games.

Senior guard Kristie Sommer suffered a head and neck injury in a Jan. 10 loss to Cedar Falls and missed the next three games.

She returned Friday night and combined with twin sister Katie to score 35 points in the Lions’ 48-24 Mississippi Valley Conference win over Xavier on “PINK OUT” night at Linn-Mar that saw the hosts decked out in pink uniforms.
