Linn-Mar rally falls short at Ankeny

ANKENY - The Linn-Mar Lions staged a furious fourth-quarter rally Tuesday night but fell a point short in a 78-77 loss at Ankeny.

The Lions trailed by 12 points, 62-50, after three quarters before nearly pulling out the victory by scoring 27 points in the fourth period.

Lane Halupnik hit 15 of 18 free throws and scored a career-high 28 points for Linn-Mar (6-6). He also grabbed nine rebounds. Riley Murphy and Jon Schlotterback added 12 points apiece for the Lions.

Lions swamp Senior in the pool

DUBUQUE - Zach Henricks and Kyle McNeal were triple winners and led Linn-Mar to a 112.5 to 57.5 win over Dubuque Senior in boys swimming Tuesday night at Hempstead.

Hendricks won the 100 butterfly and swam on the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. McNeal swam on the same relays and also won the 100 free.

Calvin Greve won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke for the Lions.

Jeffery, Ajram pace Linn-Mar matmen

ESTHERVILLE - Alijah Jeffery and Noah Ajram won all five of their matches at the Estherville Lincoln Duals Saturday in Estherville to help the Linn-Mar Lions finish second out of six teams.

Jeffery collected four pins and a forfeit at 126 pounds. Ajram had three pins, a major decision and a forfeit while wrestling at 113 and 120.

Blue Earth Area (Minn.) went 5-0 in the round-robin tournament and handed Linn-Mar its only loss, 39-28.

The Lions defeated Sioux City Heelan (57-24), Spirit Lake Park (59-14), Estherville (45-27) and Forest City (44-30).

Linn-Mar wins Prairie bowling title

The Linn-Mar Lions defeated Xavier in the championship round of the Prairie boys bowling tournament Saturday at Lancer Lanes.

Jefferson topped West Delaware for third place.

Seth Tegtmeier, Connor Pickering, Jace Dostal, Colby Frye, Raymond Glueck, Josh Wilcox, Kaleb Foye and Alex Diercks led Linn-Mar to the championship.

No. 1 Little Hawks blast Linn-Mar

IOWA CITY - All-stater Haley Lorenzen scored 21 points and Kiera Washpun added 18 as Class 5A No. 1 Iowa City High rolled to a 75-28 win over Linn-Mar on Friday night.

The Little Hawks (15-0) also got 14 points from Courtney Joens.

The Lions (9-5) were playing without senior Kristie Sommer, who missed the game with a concussion.

Taylor Robertson led the Lions with 7 points.
