Lions 'bake' Senior with 300 game

The Linn-Mar boys rolled a perfect 300 in their final Baker game to cap a comeback win over Dubuque Senior, 3061-2935, Friday afternoon in a boys bowling match at Cedar Rapids Bowl.

The Lions trailed by 14 pins after the first round, but reclaimed a slight lead in the first Baker game.

They held a 22-pin lead heading into their fifth and final Baker game, when they rolled 12 straight strikes for a perfect 300. Senior rolled a 196.

Alex Diercks led Linn-Mar in singles with a 429 series. Seth Tegtmeier shot high game for the Lions with a 234.

Lions drubbed by No.3 Rams, 66-41

Linn-Mar Coach Chris Robertson missed Tuesday night's basketball game against Dubuque Senior with the flu, but if he pulled himself together and watched the game on KCRG 9.2 it probably didn't make him feel any better.

The third-ranked Rams, featuring four college-bound athletes in their starting lineup, ripped the Lions 66-41 in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Linn-Mar.

Linn-Mar did not make a field goal in the entire first quarter and trailed, 20-4, after the initial eight minutes. They never got closer than 13 points the rest of the night.

IC West swimmers sink Linn-Mar

Linn-Mar swam well. Iowa City West swam fast.

Very, very fast.

The Trojans were in late-season form Tuesday night, churning out scintillating winning times that handed Linn-Mar a 93-77 loss at the Linn-Mar pool.

Linn-Mar won the first event, claiming the 200 medley relay. West won the rest.

Sommer sisters haunt ex-mates

DUBUQUE - The Sommer sisters had a triumphant return against their former team Tuesday night.

Kristie Sommer scored 18 points and Katie Sommer added 15 to lead Linn-Mar past Dubuque Senior, 59-49, in a girls basketball game.

The Sommers moved into the Linn-Mar district last summer before their senior season after playing for Dubuque Senior the past three years.

They combined for 33 points and knocked down five of Linn-Mar's nine 3-pointers. Aryn Jones added 10 points. Olivia Montague hit three 3-pointers for nine points.

Lions nipped for title; Hawks upend No.1

The Linn-Mar Lions came within a whisker of derailing the top-ranked high school wrestling team from Wisconsin on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Prairie Hawks succeeded in knocking off the No.1 team from Iowa.

It was a good day for the two Metro powers at the 22nd Annual Five Seasons Dual Wrestling Tournament.

It was nearly a great day.

Linn-Mar split its 14 matches with Kaukauna (Wis.), but the Galloping Ghosts got enough bonus points to nip the Lions, 33-32, in the championship match of the prestigious 16-team tournament at Cedar Rapids Washington.
