Jenks sisters win 3 events for Lions

Jennifer Jenks captured two events and Stephanie Jenks won another for the Linn-Mar Lions Tuesday night in a triangular swimming meet at the Coe College Natatorium.

The fourth-ranked Cedar Falls Tigers won the nine other events and dunked the 14th-ranked Lions, 116-70. Tipton also competed in the meet.

Jennifer Jenks won the 100 freestyle in 53.94 seconds and claimed the 100 backstroke in 1:02.16. She is ranked No.1 in the state in the 100 free and No.6 in the state in the 100 back.

Stephanie Jenks prevailed in the 500 freestyle in 5:27.72, a personal best. She is ranked 16th in the state in the 500 free.

Larson paces Lions to golf win

IOWA CITY - Brent Larson shared medalist honors with an even-par 36 Monday to help the Linn-Mar Lions win a Mississippi Valley Conference golf meet at Finkbine.

Linn-Mar submitted a four-man score of 151 for nine holes to take first place. Xavier finished second at 156, followed by Iowa City West (159) and Dubuque Hempstead (192).

J.D. Goodfellow of Iowa City West matched Larson with a 36.

Lions go 5-0 to win West volleyball title

WATERLOO - Linn-Mar went undefeated in five matches and claimed the title Saturday at the Eileen Beninga Wahawk Volleyball Classic at Waterloo West.

Linn-Mar went 3-0 in pool play with two-set wins over Don Bosco, Mason City and Decorah.

The Lions beat Waterloo West in the semifinals, then downed Wapsie Valley for the championship.

Jenn Jenks wins 200 free at Dowling

WEST DES MOINES - Linn-Mar freshman Jennifer Jenks captured the 200 freestyle at the Dowling Catholic Sprint Classic Saturday in West Des Moines.

Jenks was timed in 1:56.73 and beat a swimmer from Chanhassen (Minn.) by more than 2 1/2 seconds.

Chanhassen dominated the four-team standings by winning nine of 11 events. Linn-Mar finished in third place.

Samantha Fitzgerald (100 IM), Kelly Wingerson (50 free), Paige Broghammer (50 breaststroke) and Jenks (50 back) placed second for Linn-Mar. The Lions also finished second in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.

Jenks tops college girls at adidas XC

CARY, N.C. - Stephanie Jenks defeated all the high school runners in Iowa last year when she won the Class 4A state cross country title as a freshman.

Now the precocious sophomore from Linn-Mar has defeated college runners from the Atlantic Coast Conference at a major meet in Cary, N.C.

Jenks finished ninth overall in the adidas XC Challenge Friday night in a meet that featured runners from Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State and East Carolina.

Jenks ran unattached in the Open division, but all the runners competed in the same race at the same time.
