Marion swept by Williamsburg

The Marion Indians dropped a pair of Wamac Conference games to Williamsburg Monday night, 6-4 in nine innings and 7-4, at the Marion field.

John Carstensen gave Marion (21-14, 17-11) a three-run lead with a bases-clearing double in the first inning of the opener. The Indians took a 4-1 lead on a home run by Quinn Cannoy.

Williamsburg (24-11, 20-8) tied the game, 4-4, in the sixth inning to force extra innings.

Cannoy had three hits in the first game. Christian Stekl had two hits.

Stekl had two more hits in the nightcap. Carstensen had two RBIs.

Surging Marion Indians sweep Benton

The Marion Indians got off to a relatively slow start this season, but they are picking up steam at the right time of year.

Marion swept Benton Community, 4-3 and 6-1, in a Wamac Conference twinbill at Marion Friday.

The victories lifted the Indians to 21-12 overall and 17-9 in league games.

The first game was suspended June 16 with the score tied, 3-3, in the bottom of the seventh inning. They resumed the game from that point and the Indians scored in the bottom of the eighth inning to claim the victory.

Maverick Miller led off the eighth with a single and was bunted to second base by Logan Fuller. Owen Carstensen entered the game as a pinch-runner for Miller and scored the game-winning run on a single by David Kuhn.

Miller had three hits in the 4-3 victory. Quinn Cannoy pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts.

Miller collected four more hits for Marion in the second game. Fuller and Cannoy had two hits and Cannoy had three RBIs.

Cannoy, Kuhn and Caleb Stekl pitched for Marion in the second game and combined for 10 strikeouts. Kuhn was credited with the win.

Indians bop Beckman in Wamac twinbill

DYERSVILLE - The Marion Indians collected 28 hits Thursday and swept a Wamac Conference doubleheader from Dyersville Beckman, 16-6 and 6-4, in Dyersville.

Marion scored at least one run in every inning in the first game. Quinn Cannoy and Trevor Hardman had three RBIs. Maverick Miller, Christian Stekl, Cannoy, John Carstenson, David Kuhn, Mitch Wiese and Hardman had two hits.

Stekl scored four runs. Bobby Vanderlind and Kuhn scored three times.

Logan Fuller had three hits for Marion in the second game. Stekl and Miller had two hits. Hardman and Stekl had two RBIs. Wiese, a freshman, picked up his first win on the mound. Stekl got the save.

Marion raised its records to 19-12 overall and 15-9 in Wamac games.

Warriors top Marion in softball

Payton Bruner and Dana Riley belted home runs Tuesday night as Washington defeated Marion, 13-1, in five innings in a prep softball game at Marion.

Jessi Puk went 3-for-4 and scored three runs for the Warriors. Erica Oler was 3-for-4 and drove in three runs. Riley went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Bria Lenten and Hannah Schroeder had two hits.

Bruner went 2-for-4, scored four runs and had three RBIs. She also pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts and allowed an unearned run.

Marion wins wooden bat game

Marion won its annual wooden bat game with North Cedar, 14-4, in five innings on Tuesday night at Marion.

John Carstenson led Marion with four hits that included two doubles and four RBIs. Quinn Cannoy and Trevor Hardman had a pair of hits.

Cannoy, Hardman and Logan Fuller each scored three runs.

Freshmen Brady Donohue and Owen Carstensen pitched for the Indians, scattering four hits.
