Phillips will join ISU volleyball

Marion High School junior Abby Phillips has verbally committed to attend Iowa State University and play collegiate volleyball, the high school announced Monday.

Phillips is the career record holder at Marion High School in digs. She has been a three-year varsity starter on the Marion volleyball team.

Phillips is also the starting goalie on the Marion High School girls soccer team.

 

Cannoy eyes 2 sports at Coe

Marion High School senior Quinn Cannoy, a man for all seasons with the Indians, plans to play football and run track at Coe College.

Cannoy, 6-foot-4, 185 pounds, has participated in football, basketball, baseball, track and golf at Marion.

He caught 34 passes for 604 yards and eight touchdowns last fall, averaged 8.5 points and 6.0 rebounds for the basketball team, hit .277 for the baseball team last summer and currently ranks No. 6 in Class 3A in the 110 hurdles.

Marion netters roll by Maquoketa

MAQUOKETA - Caleb Scott, Jeremy Ellerby, Peter Ward, Nate Meister and Trevor Gamerdinger won their singles matches Thursday as the Marion Indians defeated Maquoketa, 8-1, in a Wamac Conference tennis meet at Maquoketa.

Scott defeated Lucas Long at No. 2 singles, 10-7.

Kelly is medalist at Monticello golf

MONTICELLO - Ian Kelly of Marion fired an 8-over-par 80 Wednesday and  claimed medalist honors at the Monticello Invitational at the Monticello Country Club.

Jeremy Schnieders of Marion finished sixth with an 86.

Dyersville Beckman won the tournament at 339. Marion placed third out of seven teams at 346.

6 Metro teams ranked in boys soccer

Six boys soccer teams from the Metro area are ranked again this week by the IAHSSCA, but the exact spots have changed a little bit.

Four Metro teams are ranked in Class 3A with Linn-Mar No. 4, Washington No. 5, Kennedy No. 6 and Prairie No. 13.

Two Metro teams are ranked in Class 2A with Xavier No.4 and Marion No.13.
