Marion boys tripped by Mount Vernon, 61-58

Mount Vernon outscored Marion 20-7 at the free-throw line and rallied to beat the Indians, 61-58, Saturday in Wamac Conference boys basketball at Marion.

Daly Quinn scored 19 points to pace Marion (7-10, 6-9). Craig Engle added 11 points.

Mount Vernon used an 11-3 spurt to start the fourth quarter to erase a four-point deficit and claim a 47-43 lead it did not surrender.

Conway places 4th at Wamac meet

INDEPENDENCE - Marion 138-pounder Colin Conway placed fourth Saturday at the Wamac Conference wrestling meet.

Conway beat Cole Fritz of Solon in the quarterfinals by decision, 11-8. He lost in the semifinals and third place match.

Conway scored 13 of Marion's 28 points. The Indians finished 13th out of 15 teams. Independence and West Delaware tied for first with 218.5 points apiece.

Trey Clifton was seventh at 126, and Caleb Conway and Dalton Gardner were eighth at 132 and 195, respectively, for Marion.

Daly Quinn cans 14 in Marion loss

DE WITT - DeWitt Central used an 11-4 spurt in the fourth quarter to pull away from Marion and beat the Indians, 54-45, Friday night in Wamac Conference boys basketball.

Daly Quinn scored 14 points and Terrence Williams added 13 for Marion (7-9, 6-8 Wamac).

Kyle Bauer's 18 points paced Central.

Marion girls fall to DeWitt

The Marion and DeWitt Central girls basketball teams combined for 62 points in the first half Friday night, but then everybody lost their shooting touch and they combined for only 24 points in a sluggish second half.

DeWitt Central went home with a 47-39 victory in a Wamac Conference game at Marion.

DeWitt Central outscored Marion, 34-28, in the first half. DeWitt had the advantage in the second half as well, this time by a 13-11 margin.

Michalyn Mohr led Marion (4-12, 4-9) with 15 points and Amanda Sahm had 11. Only four players scored for the Indians.

Amanda Brainerd and Miranda Meland scored 17 apiece for DeWitt Central. Meland hit five 3-pointers.

Prucha propels Marion boys bowlers

WATERLOO - Zach Prucha shot a 395 series that paced Marion past Waterloo Coolumbus, 2803-2586, Friday in boys bowling at Cadillac Lanes.

Nick Wheeler had high game of 228 for Marion. Prucha had a 226.
