Lembeck wears crown at Marion Invy

Clint Lembeck of Xavier captured the 138-pound title at the Loyd Shaffer Invitational Saturday at Marion High School.

Xavier, who is ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, raised his record to 24-1 with a 10-4 victory over Sam Elliott of Northwest Blue Valley in the finals.

Williamsburg won the championship in the 12-team tournament. Marion finished sixth and Xavier placed seventh.

Marion got second-place showings from Caleb Conway (145) and Colin Conway (152). Trey Clifton finished third for the Indians at 138.

Xavier got a second-place finish from Jeff Vipond at 113. The Saints got third-place showings from Keegan Schultschik (120), Josh Gerke (145) and Alex Francois (220).

Andersen rolls 300 for Maquoketa

MAQUOKETA - Isaac Andersen rolled a perfect game for Maquoketa Friday in a 3402-2736 victory over the Marion Indians in a Wamac Conference bowling meet at Timber Lanes.

Andersen also had a 245 game for a big 545 series. Luke Brame had a 500 series for Maquoketa.

Dylan Nash led Marion with a 257 game and 427 series.

Alexis Smith sparks Marion bowlers

MAQUOKETA - Alexis Smith had the hot hand Friday with a 210 game and 408 series as the Marion Indians topped Maquoketa, 2424-2115, in a Wamac Conference girls bowling meet at Timber Lanes.

MARION: Alyssa Rose 117+128=245, Alicia Steepleton 116+165=281, Bre Smith 162+150=312, Madison Baker 91+129=220, Aleann Romo 175+165=340, Alexis Smith 210+198=408.

No. 7 Marion girls top Clear Creek

TIFFIN – The seventh-ranked Marion girls basketball came back from a 25-21 halftime deficit to beat Clear Creek Amana, 54-41, in a Wamac game Friday at Clear Creek Amana.

The Indians fought back in the second half to lead 34-31 at the end of the third quarter and ended the game on a 20-10 run.

Chloe Rice scored 17 points for Marion (9-4), Mia Laube had 11 and Maddie Knapp added 10.

Abbi Kinnaird scored 15 points to lead the Clippers (5-8).

Marion boys fall to Clear Creek Amana

The Marion boys basketball team got off to a good start, but faded down the stretch and lost to Clear Creek Amana 56-47 in a Wamac game Friday at Marion.

The Indians entered the fourth quarter with a 38-36 lead, but the Clippers finished the game with a 20-9 run.

Chase Zielke was the lone Marion player to score in double digits with 12 points. The Indians fell to 4-8.

Cal Miller led Clear Creek-Amana (6-5) with 17 points.

CLEAR CREEK AMANA (56): Thomsen 1 5-8 7, Miller 6 2-3 17, Neubauer 1 7-10 9, Mougin 0 0-0 0, Hallett 2 2-2 6, Akers 4 4-4 12, Downes 2 1-4 5. Totals 16 21-10 56.
