Marion nipped by Springville, 2-1

The Springville Orioles trimmed Marion, 2-1, in a non-conference softball game at Marion Wednesday night.

Beth Knapp and Michalyn Mohr had two hits for the Indians (12-22). Springville scored two runs in the fourth inning and held on for the victory.

Ashley Lappe pitched four shutout innings in relief for Marion.

Marion sweeps to Wamac division title

The Marion Indians began the 2013 baseball season with five straight losses, but my-oh-my take a look at them now.

The Indians swept Vinton-Shellsburg, 3-2 in nine innings and 5-2, to move to the top of the Wamac Conference in their division Wednesday night.

“We clinched at least a tie with Benton for the championship of the Western Division,” said Marion Coach Steve Fish. “These kids have been through a lot and they have worked hard for this kind of success.”

Marion worked overtime to win the first game. The Indians (17-12, 15-9) had eight hits, walked nine times and were helped by six errors by Vinton-Shellsburg.

Clippers sweep Marion in softball

Clear Creek Amana swept a Wamac Conference softball doubleheader from the Marion Indians Monday night, 10-5 and 9-2, at Marion.

Paige Perkins hit a home run and drove in three runs for Marion in the first game.

Bayley Fuller had two hits for the Indians in the nightcap.

Marion fell to 12-21 overall and 5-14 in Wamac games.

Marion sweeps CCA with stellar pitching

Levi Lochner pitched a no-hitter and Quinn Cannoy tossed a one-hitter as the Marion Indians swept a Wamac Conference doubleheader from Clear Creek Amana, 4-0 and 10-0 in five innings, at the Marion field Monday night.

Lochner pitched his second no-hitter of the season and struck out eight batters. Logan Fuller, Christian Stekl and Cannoy had two hits apiece.

Alex Charipar and Stekl had three hits in the nightcap to support Cannoy. Charipar scored three runs. Trev Biery and Trevor Hardman had two hits.

Marion raised its records to 15-12 overall and 13-9 in Wamac games.

Maquoketa ends Marion's 11-game streak

MAQUOKETA - Marion's bats went cold on a hot day in Maquoketa Wednesday.

The Marion Indians got swept by Maquoketa in a Wamac Conference doubleheader, 5-2 and 8-2, snapping their 11-game winning streak.

The Indians (13-10, 11-7) managed only two hits in the opener. Trev Biery and David Kuhn collected RBIs for Marion.
