7 Indians saluted on all-Wamac soccer

Seven players from Marion High School have been named to the all-Wamac Conference soccer teams in the West Division.

Abby Phillips was named first team all-conference on the girls' squad. Lexie Rael and Lauren Rausch were second-team selections.

Matthew Minks and Enoch Duval were named first team all-Wamac on the boys' team. Brandon See and Steve Hartzler were named to the second unit.

Becky Herman of Marion was named the West Division girls Coach of the Year.

Lochner, Cannoy shine as Marion sweeps

CENTER POINT - Levi Lochner and Quinn Cannoy pitched strong games Tuesday night as the Marion Indians swept a Wamac Conference doubleheader from Center Point-Urbana, 10-0 and 9-2, in Center Point.

Lochner tossed a two-hitter in the first game. Cannoy, Trev Biery and Christian Stekl had two hits. Caleb Stekl and Alex Charipar drove in two runs.

Cannoy scattered six hits and struck out nine batters in the nightcap. Christian Stekl and Trevor Hardman collected three hits. Christian Stekl scored three runs, Hardman had two RBIs and David Kuhn had two hits.

Journey just beginning for Indians

Marion's baseball team started this season 0-5 which might send some coaches into a panic.

Steve Fish has been around the game long enough to know the important games are in July, not May.

The veteran Indians' coach saw his young team start slowly, but knew the potential was there for a solid season. That potential is turning into results.

Fish's team turned in a pair of impressive performances Thursday night, sweeping Wamac Conference foe, Anamosa, 13-3 and 10-0. Since that dismal start, Marion has gone 11-3.

Indians get no hits, fall in 11 innings

The Marion Indians did not get any hits Wednesday night, but they battled West Delaware for 11 innings before losing a Wamac Conference softball game at Marion, 3-2.

Hannah Cole pitched the entire game for West Delaware and tossed the marathon no-hitter. Lauren Rausch and Beth Knapp collected RBIs for Marion in the third inning when the Indians took a 2-1 lead without the benefit of a base hit.

West Delaware tied the game, 2-2, in the top of the fifth. It stayed that way until the visitors scored in the top of the 11th and held on for the victory.

Indians drop softball twinbill in Epworth

EPWORTH - The Marion Indians squandered too many chances Tuesday and lost a Wamac Conference softball doubleheader at Western Dubuque, 4-1 and 3-2.

Marion left 15 runners on base in the twinbill and could not get a timely hit. Meanwhile, Western Dubuque staged sixth-inning rallies in both games to grab the wins.

Lauren Rausch, Beth Knapp and Michalyn Mohr had two hits apiece for Marion in the first game. The Indians took a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning, but Western Dubuque scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the sixth for the victory.
