Indians tripped up by Anamosa

Anamosa scored three runs in the sixth inning to rally for a 3-2 win over Marion in girls softball Thursday night at Marion.

Marion (4-6, 2-3 Wamac) was held to four hits.

Marion splits twinbill at Columbus

WATERLOO - The Marion High School softball team split a Wamac Conference doubleheader at Waterloo Columbus Monday.

Haley Vanourney went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs in an 8-4 victory. Marion trailed, 4-2, but erupted for six runs in the seventh inning for the victory.

Lauren Rausch went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Paige Perkins drove in two runs and Mahlia Brown had two hits. Ashley Lappe got the victory in relief.

Waterloo Columbus won the other game, 9-2. Rausch had two more hits in that game.

Pitching gems propel Marion sweep

WATERLOO - Marion got complete games from Levi Lochner and Quinn Cannoy to sweep a Wamac Conference doubleheader from Waterloo Columbus, 8-2 and 3-2, Monday night at Columbus.

Lochner struck out 13 and scattered 3 hits in the opener.

Trev Biery, playing his first game of the season coming back from injury, was 2-for-3 with a double. Cannoy and freshman Gage Kray also had two hits.

In the nightcap, Cannoy allowed zero earned runs and had six strikeouts. Biery had an RBI double in the first inning. Alex Charipar added an RBI double in the fifth inning.

Indians drop 2 games at IC West tourney

IOWA CITY - The Marion High School softball team lost both of its games at the Iowa City West tournament Saturday at the UI Complex.

The Indians collected nine hits in their first game but scored only one run in a 6-1 setback to Davenport Assumption. Beth Knapp went 3-for-3 and Michalyn Mohr was 2-for-3.

Mid-Prairie defeated Marion, 9-0, on a one-hitter by Taylor Kurtz. Mohr had the only hit for the Indians.

Championship heartbreak for Marion

WATERLOO - The Marion boys doubles team of Brandon Hornback and Michael Anderson lost a three-set heartbreaker to Davenport Assumption in the Class 1A championship finals match Saturday.

The Marion duo won the first set, but lost the next two, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(1).

Hornback and Larson reached the finals by beating top-seeded Keokuk in Saturday morning's semifinals, 6-3, 7-6(5).

The Davenport Assumption team was seeded No.2. Marion was not seeded in the top four.
