Marion boys 2nd in Wamac tennis meet

WATERLOO - The Marion boys finished second Tuesday in the Wamac Conference boys tennis meet at Byrnes Park.

Marion's Brandon Hornback and Michael Anderson won the No.1 doubles title and five Indians finished second in singles.

Hornback, Anderson, Tristan Beghtol, Aaron Smith and Caleb Scott finished as runnersup in singles.

Smith and Kyle Kennedy teamed to finish second at No.3 doubles.

Waterloo Columbus won its 10th straight Wamac boys tennis title, making it a clean sweep since it joined the conference 10 years ago. The Sailors are moving into the North Iowa Cedar League next year.

Marion boys roll to 6th straight tennis win

DUBUQUE - Marion rolled to its sixth straight win and stayed unbeaten Monday, whipping Western Dubuque 7-2 in a boys tennis meet at Eagle Point.

Brandon Hornback cruised to a 10-1 win at No.1 singles.

Hornback, Michael Anderson, Kyle Kennedy and Caleb Scott won in singles and doubles for Marion.

Marion claims title at own track meet

Devin LeBeau captured the 100 and 200 meter dashes Monday to help the Marion Indians take top honors at the Marion Invitational at Thomas Park.

Marion trimmed a strong team from Monticello for first place in the 16-team standings, 126.5 to 108.

Peter Rethwisch won the 400 meter dash for the Indians and Zach Borens claimed the shot put. Marion also won the shuttle hurdle relay.

Marion girls win 3 events at own meet

Morgan Kolarik of Marion High School captured the 100 hurdles at the Marion Invitational track meet Thursday at Thomas Park.

The Indians also claimed the sprint medley and the distance medley.

Benton Community won the 11-team meet with 105 points. Marion placed eighth.

Marion runs boys tennis record to 4-0

The Marion boys tennis team ran its record to 4-0 Monday in a 6-3 win over Western Dubuque at Marion.

Marion's Brandon Hornback blitzed Devin Watters, 10-1, at No.1 singles.

Michael Anderson and Caleb Scott also won singles matches for Marion.

The Indians swept all three doubles matches to seal the win.
