Bre Smith leads Marion bowlers

Marion's Bre Smith had the hot hand with games of 196 and 183 for a 379 series Friday in girls bowling at Marion Bowl.

Western Dubuque won the triangular with a score of 2592. Waterloo Columbus was second with 2351 and Marion followed with 2125.

Marion matmen mauled by Mustangs

Mitch Ross and Levi Lochner had pins to account for Marion's points in a 67-12 loss to Mount Vernon Thursday at Marion.

Ross won at 285 pounds with a fall in 56 seconds. Lochner stuck Jake Weiland in 2:27.

Mount Vernon wrestlers had eight pins.

Benton girls charge past Marion

For a team that’s struggled all year getting out of the gate, the Marion girls couldn’t have picked a worse time for another slow start.

Coming to town Tuesday night leading the Wamac West Division by a game and ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, the Benton Bobcats (13-1, 7-1) charged out to a 15-2 and never looked back.

Plagued by six turnovers in each of the first three quarters, the Indians tried to play catch-up the whole way in a 55-38 loss.

Marion trimmed by Benton, 64-63, in OT

VAN HORNE - Tyler Gunderson poured in 26 points for the Marion Indians Tuesday night in their Wamac Conference ballgame at Benton Community.

As it turned out, the Indians might have been better off he had scored only 25.

Gunderson went to the foul line with his team trailing, 64-61, with 3.2 seconds left in overtime. He made his first throw but was supposed to miss the second shot on purpose to give his teammates a chance to grab an offensive rebound and tie the game.

Marion stuck twice on the mat

CENTER POINT - Marion 285-pounder Mitch Ross pinned both of his foes, but the Indians had a rough night Monday dropping a pair of Wamac Conference wrestling duals at Center Point-Urbana High School.

Marion was beaten by Center Point-Urbana and Vinton-Shellsburg by identical 51-30 scores.

The Indians had five pins against Center Point-Urbana. Levi Lochner (145), Romello Olds (152), Dakota Peterson (170), Kyle Grandon (195) and Ross had falls.
