Marion runs 3rd at West Delaware Invy

MANCHESTER - The Marion Indians finished in third place Tuesday in a tightly bunched field at the West Delaware Invitational cross country meet.

Center Point-Urbana won the boys race with 113 points. Mount Vernon/Lisbon placed second with 124 and Marion was third with 128 points in the 18-team field.

Peter Rethwisch led the Indians in eighth place.

Madison Bach finished in 15th place for the Marion girls as the Indians placed ninth out of 15 teams.

Indians run wild against Bobcats, 63-0

VAN HORNE - Marion’s offensive line opened up car-sized holes on Friday night and the Indians set the dial on cruise control.

Marion rushers scored eight touchdowns on their way to a 63-0 victory against Benton Community in Van Horne.

Marion (5-1, 3-0) amassed 384 yards of total rushing from several different backs throughout the night. Trev Biery, Andrew Davis and Colton Mowry all had more than 50 yards on the ground and each had at least one score.

Saints 7th, Marion 10th in volleyball rankings

Xavier moved up one spot to seventh and Marion jumped into the rankings at No. 10 in this week's Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Class 4A volleyball poll released Thursday.

Xavier (16-8) moved up after reaching the semifinals of the Dubuque tournament last weekend and downing crosstown rival Washington in straight sets Tuesday.

Marion (16-7) cracked the rankings after winning the Mid-Prairie volleyball tournament last weekend and drubbing Williamsburg in straight sets Tuesday.

Marion runners claim Washington Invy

WASHINGTON, Iowa - Two, four, six, eight ... Who do we appreciate?

Marion! Marion! Marion!

Marion runners finished 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th Tuesday to help the Indians take first place at the Washington (Iowa) Invitational at the Washington Country Club.

Marion nudged Fort Madison for the title, 32-36.

Marion volleyball team sweeps Raiders

WILLIAMSBURG - Amanda Sahm collected 25 assists Tuesday night as the Marion Indians swept a Wamac Conference volleyball match from the Williamsburg Raiders, 25-16, 25-17, 25-14, at Williamsburg.

Alyssa Thomas led the kills department with eight smashes for Marion (16-7, 5-1). Johanna Steggall and Kaela Halvorson had six kills apiece and Kelsey Portwin had five.

Jessica Thomas went 16-for-16 on her serves and Sahm was 13-for-13. Lauren Rausch, Abby Phillips and Steggall all had seven digs.

Alyssa Thomas contributed three blocks and Steggall had two. Jessica Thomas served three aces. Harper Bean and Steggall had two apiece.
