Marion boys grab top honors at Independence

INDEPENDENCE - The Marion Indians placed six runners in the top-12 Saturday and ran away with the team championship at the Independence Invitational cross country meet.

Peter Rethwisch finished second to lead the Indians. Cole Kuethe was sixth, Colton Forster seventh, Isaac Smith 10th, Hunter Reifschneider 11th and Jacob Manderscheid 12th in a dominating performance by Marion.

Marion wins Mid-Prairie volleyball title

WELLMAN - The Marion Indians won all five of their matches Saturday to claim the title at the Mid-Prairie Invitational volleyball tournament.

Marion defeated Benton Community (21-16, 21-12), Iowa City Regina (21-18, 21-15), West Liberty (21-18, 21-15), Williamsburg (21-17, 21-12) and Mid-Prairie (21-18, 21-8).

The Indians raised their overall mark to 15-7 and have a 4-1 record in the Wamac Conference.

Biery sparks Marion by Maquoketa

Marion High School running back Trev Biery is like a wrecking ball and he was in demolition mode Friday night.

Just ask the three Maquoketa defenders he barreled over on his way to a 19-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The Indians rode their workhorse to a 25-14 victory against Class 3A district foe Maquoketa on a crisp night at Thomas Park.

Thomas girls lead Marion spikers to win

Marion's Alyssa Thomas had 18 kills and five blocks to lead the Indians past Waterloo Columbus in Wamac Conference volleyball Thursday night at Marion.

The Indians won by scores of 26-24, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-14.

Jessica Thomas also had a big night for the Indians. She had 12 kills and was a perfect 25 of 25 serving with four aces.

Marion is 10-7 overall and 4-1 in the Wamac.

Bach runs to 3rd place at V-S meet

VINTON - The Marion boys finished second and the girls third Tuesday at the Vinton-Shellsburg Invitational cross country meet.

Vinton-Shellsburg won the boys meet with 33 points. Marion was second with 73 and Benton Community third with 89.

Colton Forster was Marion's top finisher in the boys race at 11th. Cole Kuethe was 12th.

Marion's Madison Bach was third in the girls race.
